Where Is Justin McSwain From My 600-Lb Life Now?
"My 600-lb Life" has documented the weight-loss journeys of individuals since 2012. That's over 100 people who have appeared on the show and met with bariatric surgeon Dr. Younan Nowzaradan in order to jump-start the biggest change of their life. Some of those participants reach their goal, while others see their progress stalled. Sadly, there are even those who have died after their stories were told. The road to significant weight loss is a difficult one, and fans of the show become emotionally invested in the outcomes.
When we last saw Justin McSwain, he was well on his way to becoming one of the most memorable participants on the show. His episode, which premiered as part of Season 7, showed the then 27-year-old at 687 pounds and struggling with anxiety and agoraphobia. Justin had coped with his difficult childhood and unstable mother using food, and the dependence spiraled into an addiction as he got older. When Justin took initiative and met with Dr. Now, he quickly began turning his life around. A year after he adjusted his diet and underwent gastric bypass surgery, Justin had lost 334 pounds. By 2019, he had begun taking flight lessons to earn his pilot's license, believing that not even the sky was the limit. Justin has made even bigger strides since then. This is where Justin McSwain is now.
Justin McSwain has changed a lot
As reported by People, Justin McSwain recently appeared on "My 600-Lb Life: Where Are They Now?" Not only had he lost over 450 lbs., but he joined fellow Dr. Now patient Christine Phillips to speak publicly about his incredible weight loss. During his speech, he credited therapy for helping him realize that he was "someone who deserved a chance at life." Justin, who previously had to quit his job due to his health problems, recently completed a hiking 5K, a milestone he celebrated on his Instagram.
The South Carolina resident seems to have a new love for the outdoors. His feed is full of jubilant moments, from wishing Dr. Now a happy birthday, to before and after pictures, and hikes with his adorable corgi Finn. In a recent Instagram post featuring a black and white photo, Justin said that there are still moments where he feels self-conscious about his body, but on occasion, he feels confident.
In June 2020 Justin celebrated his 30th birthday, a day which he told his followers he wasn't sure he would see, but can now say he has a "new and full life." He followed the post with the caption #Here'sToMyNext30Years, a sentiment that many share with the inspiring reality star. Cheers to you, Justin!
