The Real Reason You Missed Sebastian Stan At The 2021 MTV Movie And TV Awards
Anthony Mackie and Sebastian Stan took home the award for — what else? — Best Duo at the 2021 MTV Movie and TV Awards, an honor that is voted on by the fans. The stars of "The Falcon and the Winter Soldier" have definitely amassed quite the following over the last several years, as they've both made the jump from sidekick to leading man in the MCU.
Mackie accepted the award in person on behalf of himself and Stan, who was unable to attend the event. The "Altered Carbon" star noted that his friend couldn't join him because he was "off being a rockstar." Mackie went on to comment on the recent photos of his friend, which left social media buzzing this last week. The latter is set to star in the upcoming Hulu series "Pam & Tommy," wherein he portrays legendary rock drummer Tommy Lee opposite Lily James' Pam Anderson. In the various behind-the-scenes snaps that Stan has been posting, he looks almost identical to the Mötley Crüe bad boy.
Anthony Mackie wasn't sure about Sebastian Stan playing Tommy Lee
"Pam & Tommy" is currently filming and is without a release date at this time, but television fans are eagerly awaiting its debut. The recent photos of Sebastian Stan and Lily James in full makeup as Tommy Lee and Pamela Anderson are still lighting up social media, bringing fan anticipation to a crescendo. It's amazing to think that when the actors were first announced to be playing the famous couple, many were nervous about the casting — including Stan's bestie Anthony Mackie.
When catching up with Variety at the MTV Movie & TV Awards, Mackie noted that he was "horrified" when he heard his friend would be playing Lee. His opinion changed rather quickly, especially upon seeing the set photos. He commented, "People being able to see him for the chameleon that he is, not just a beautifully amazing blue-eyed god that he is. It's very refreshing."
"Pam & Tommy" will follow the life of the very public couple after the leak of their infamous sex tape, and explore how that moment affected their marriage. The series also stars Seth Rogen, Taylor Schilling, and Nick Offerman. Whenever it does come out, it sounds like Mackie will be watching along with the rest of us.
