Black Summer Season 2 Scores Release Date And New Promo Spots
Following the success of "The Walking Dead" and its brethren, the zombie-themed "Black Summer" is one of the latest suspenseful shows to dominate Netflix. The gritty series follows a group of survivors in the early days of a zombie apocalypse, who work together to make it back to their families and survive among the horrific undead monsters. The first season centers on a mother named Rose (Jaime King), who is separated from her daughter Anna (Zoe Marlett) in the chaos and does whatever she can to find her. We also meet other survivors including Julius James (Justin Chu Cary), Ooh "Sun" Kyung-Sun (Christine Lee), Lance (Kelsey Flower), and William Velez (Sal Velez, Jr.).
Season 1 of "Black Summer" was a major hit for Netflix, and earned a 78% on Rotten Tomatoes. Not surprisingly, according to Deadline, Season 2 was confirmed all the way back in 2019, but it was delayed due to — as you can probably guess — the COVID-19 pandemic, just like so many other shows.
Fortunately for fans, Netflix finally dropped a first look at Season 2, and they have even announced an official premiere date.
Season 2 is coming this summer
On May 18, 2020, the Netflix Geeked Twitter account dropped three short teaser clips for "Black Summer" Season 2, which appears to take place during a snowy winter — a setting that is different, and often demanded, from other zombie franchises. The clips come with captions that, put together, read: "Nowhere to hide. No one to trust. No way to know who's next."
The first clip shows Rose braiding Anna's hair, when suddenly they're interrupted by a zombie's erratic grunts. They rush to hide right before it stops in front of their shelter, where it eventually turns and runs the other way.
The second clip features members of the original surviving group as they huddle around a campfire, melting a can of snow for water. They look at each other anxiously before hearing ominous noises themselves, and soon two zombies barge into their camp — though it looks like they run right past. The final clip shows Julius walking alone through the snow, only to zoom in on a trail of blood he's leaving behind as he travels. Does this mean he's soon to join the zombies as one of their own? Or will one of his crew members find him before it's too late?
Thankfully, we only have to wait a little while longer to find out. The much-anticipated Season 2 of "Black Summer" is coming to Netflix on June 17.
