What To Expect From The Friends Reunion Special
More information has been revealed about the long-awaited "Friends" reunion special, and it looks like it'll have plenty of moments for fans to look forward to.
It's been 17 years since "Friends" aired its 2004 finale, but the series remains one of the most beloved and popular sitcoms in the history of television. The show, which followed the personal and professional lives of six friends living in Manhattan in the mid- to late 1990s and early 2000s, ran for 10 seasons from 1994 to 2004 and produced over 200 episodes throughout that time. It made international stars of its six lead actors, Jennifer Aniston, Lisa Kudrow, Matt LeBlanc, Matthew Perry, Courteney Cox, and David Schwimmer, all of whom have gone on to have fairly successful TV and film careers in the years since their time on "Friends."
Those same actors are set to publicly reunite for only the second time since the "Friends" finale aired in 2004 for the upcoming HBO Max special, "Friends: The Reunion." Fans of the series are, understandably, excited for the special, which is finally set to make its premiere on the streaming service later this month after being delayed indefinitely by the COVID-19 pandemic last year. Fortunately, it sounds like the "Friends" reunion special will very much end up being worth the wait.
A tease of what fans will see during the Friends reunion special
"Friends" fans finally have a better idea of what to expect from the upcoming HBO Max reunion special, thanks to some new details revealed by People.
The outlet reports that the unscripted reunion special will, among other things, see the core "Friends" cast members openly reminiscing about the series and their time working on it, as well as performing a table read of part of the script for the show's Season 4 premiere episode, "The One With The Jellyfish." The special will also reportedly include a re-imagining of the iconic trivia game from Season 4 that saw Joey (Matt LeBlanc) and Chandler (Matthew Perry) winning residency of Monica (Courteney Cox) and Rachel's (Jennifer Aniston) apartment. The special will also include appearances from a large number of surprise guests, including Reese Witherspoon, Lady Gaga, Justin Bieber, Mindy Kaling, and many other notable celebrities.
The outlet also teased the emotional reaction that the "Friends" cast members had to returning to the Warner Bros. studio lot where the series was originally filmed. Their return apparently saw them making visits to the lot's various recreated "Friends" sets, including the one built in honor of the show's iconic fictional coffee shop, Central Perk.
There will no doubt be other surprises in store for fans throughout the "Friends" reunion special, ones that they'll have to wait for its release on HBO Max next week to see. Based on everything that has been released about the special up to this point, though, it's looking more and more likely that it won't just be the "Friends" cast who end up having emotional reactions to the reunion.
