Dwayne Johnson's Recent Instagram Post Has Black Adam Fans Going Nuts

DC's gritty antihero Black Adam is set to hit the silver screen in his own solo film on July 29, 2022, after more than 10 years in development. Dwayne "the Rock" Johnson, who's also producing the film, is starring as Black Adam — and now that the movie has started production, he's been posting to his social media accounts sneak peeks about his character and the movie, which is making for some viral posts.

Johnson's most recent "Black Adam" tease is a pretty intense image, and it has fans excited.

Uploaded to Johnson's Instagram on May 22, the photo a black-and-white snap of the actor in character as Black Adam. He's seen wearing a cloak that covers most of his body and his entire face. He appears to be standing in a spotlight, but the setting is devoid of other details: the light reveals only folds of material. It's likely he's wearing his full costume underneath, if the shoes shown are any indication.

Johnson captioned the post, "If you know the comic book mythology, then you know where his pain comes from. His rage. His wife and children killed. His people brutally enslaved. He is not a superhero, but rather a champion. Champion of the poor and beaten down. Champion of the people. And he is the most unstoppable force in the DC UNIVERSE."

The image is stark and mysterious, and it communicates a certain dark sensibility that has fans posting "fire" and "heart eyes" emojis in the comments section of the post. Johnson also noted later in the caption that production is "coming along GREAT," and that Black Adam's "mythology, ethics and actions no doubt will create a new paradigm in the world of superheroes, villains & antiheroes."

The post has more than 1.6 million likes at this point, so it seems like people are definitely connecting with the visual.

The latest in a long line of Black Adam teases

Dwayne Johnson has been pretty vocal on Instagram about how he prepared for "Black Adam": He got into even better shape than usual (is that possible?) and maintained that physique during months of shooting. And this isn't the first time he's posted images that serve as teasers. Just a few days back, another Instagram post had fans going wild; if you click to the second photo and zoom in, you'll see that underneath a robe he has on, Johnson is wearing his Black Adam costume.

At around the same time Johnson shared this new image, he also posted a shot of a giant sound stage strewn with rubble and debris. "Wanted to show you guys this cool shot of our enormous sound stages and massive production efforts and scale," he captioned it. "Zoom in and take a look. We're hitting our midway point stride and our A-Team production crew continue to showcase why they're the best in our industry."

Other "Black Adam" set photos have come out recently as well. Actress Sarah Shahi's stunt double, Tessa Anderson, reportedly posted shots of a tomb featuring an Egyptian-looking design (there's a giant pharaoh statue) to her Instagram Story, which was then captured and re-posted online (via Twitter).

These recent teases offer just a hint of what's to come, but as the movie gets closer to its release date, fans will hopefully get more substantial looks at what's happening on set — including a full look at Black Adam's full costume.

"Black Adam" will fly into theaters on July 29, 2022.
