Fans Think These Stranger Things 4 Set Photos Tease A Tragic Ending
The town of Hawkins, Indiana just can't catch a break. That's the setting of Netflix's flagship '80s-inspired horror series, "Stranger Things." Each year, another monster from an alternate dimension shows up and devastates the small Hoosier town until a local party of adventurers made up of Mike (Finn Wolfhard), Dustin (Gaten Matarazzo), Lucas (Caleb McLaughlin), and Eleven (Millie Bobbie Brown) banishes it back to where it came from.
For fans, the worst part about "Stranger Things" is waiting for the next season to be available on Netflix. The last season, its third, was released on July 4, 2019. It's been almost two years since the last episode, and thanks to the coronavirus pandemic, the wait will probably be a bit longer. In the meantime, fans are speculating about the next tragedy that's coming to Hawkins. Netflix shared a teaser for the fourth season on May 6, 2021, which led many to predict that the show will be going in an even darker direction than it has before.
Since then, a "Stranger Things" news Twitter account has shared photos from the set, and they appear to confirm that things are going to be tragic in Hawkins for a while longer.
The town of Hawkins is getting a little smaller
On May 25, 2021, the @StrangerNews11 Twitter account shared four photos from the set of the fourth season of "Stranger Things." All four photos show the Hawkins cemetery, where it looks like a funeral is taking place. So the big question is obviously, who died? Jonathan (Charlie Heaton) and Nancy (Natalia Dyer), can be seen sitting off to the side in one of the photos, so they appear to be safe.
Fans had already been speculating that Season 4 will include a major character death. Two of the most likely candidates are Steve (Joe Keery), the gloriously mulleted older teenager and Mike, one of the three main boys. On the other hand, it's possible this could just be the funeral for Billy Hargrove, the bullying lifeguard whom the Mind Flayer killed at the end of Season 3.
Whoever died, we probably won't know for sure until 2022. That's when Finn Wolfhard indicated in a fan video that the fourth season might premiere. A 2022 release date leaves plenty of time for fans to concoct more theories about who might be inside the coffin.
