Cobra Kai Season 4 Teaser Trailer Confirms The Return Of A Huge Villain
It seems the hit YouTube-Red-turned-Netflix series "Cobra Kai" is living up to the mantra of its titular dojo: striking hard and showing no mercy as it drops a teaser trailer for its upcoming fourth season.
The streamer released the "Cobra Kai" Season 4 teaser trailer in a pretty surprising reveal, unleashing it online on Thursday, May 27 after only two cryptic teases: a tweet asking, "Anyone have a spare hair tie?", and another tweet from actor Martin Kove with the caption, "NO MERCY." Fans of the series, a spin-off of the "Karate Kid" movies, expected that something was coming — perhaps a batch of behind-the-scenes photos, or a release date for the new season — but few expected that they'd get to feast their eyes on the first teaser for Season 4.
And even fewer anticipated that the footage would actually confirm the suspected return of an unforgettable antagonist: Terry Silver, played by Thomas Ian Griffith, the villain of "The Karate Kid Part III."
Terry Silver is back
Also known as "Twig," Terry Silver is a martial arts expert and a longtime friend of John Kreese's (Kove), seen in flashbacks throughout "Cobra Kai" as the series documents the two men's time in the military. Kreese and Silver, who buys his pal the Cobra Kai Dojo in the "Karate Kid" films and serves as the CEO of DynaTox Industries, joins forces to make Daniel LaRusso's (Ralph Macchio) life as difficult as possible after the 1984 All-Valley Karate Tournament. Unfortunately for Kreese and Silver, the revenge plot completely falls apart, and they're forced to close the Cobra Kai Dojo — until it opens back up again 30 years later, at the start of "Cobra Kai."
At the end of "Cobra Kai" Season 3, Kreese is seen calling someone on the phone, and many believed that he was trying to get a hold of Silver (via Collider). Now, we know that's exactly what happened.
"Cobra Kai" executive producers and writers Josh Heald, Jon Hurwitz, and Hayden Schlossberg said of Thomas Ian Griffith reprising his role as Terry "Twig" Silver, "Since the beginning of the series, we've been carefully orchestrating the right moment to unleash Cobra Kai dojo co-founder Terry Silver back into the universe. That moment is now. We can't wait for the whole world to experience Thomas Ian Griffith's majestic return to the franchise."
"Cobra Kai" Season 4 is still without a release date, but that announcement should be coming in the near future.
