Archer's Season 12 Release Date Has Fans Over The Moon
Sterling Archer is coming back to fill that empty hole that's been in your life. Phrasing ... boom!
Since 2009, "Archer" has put a unique spin on the workplace sitcom, putting a bunch of crazy people together within a spy organization that constantly seems to reinvent itself. Archer and the gang have worked for a drug-running operation and a detective agency. For several years, the plot of "Archer" remained confined to Sterling's (H. Jon Benjamin) psyche, allowing the team to have wild adventures in space and the middle of a jungle. Archer returned to reality in Season 11, where he's no longer the world's greatest spy ever since he came out of his coma, and amazingly, it looks like the crew has zero plans on slowing down any time soon.
FX Productions confirmed Season 12 late in 2020, which will likely explore the newfound maturity Sterling displays in the previous season's finale. He finally confronted the others about how they use him as a scapegoat to justify their own moral failings, and it'll be interesting to see where all of the secret agents go from here. So when can we expect more misadventures with Sterling and the gang?
Season 12 premieres on August 25, 2021
"Archer" Season 11 ended in October 2020, and it looks like fans won't even have to wait a full year before seeing the company formerly known as ISIS suit up for their next escapade. FX Networks confirmed Season 12's release date on Twitter with a post that would make Sterling himself proud: "back in the...wait for it... danger zone. @archerfxx 12 premieres august 25 on FXX & next day on #FXonHulu."
FX also used the moment to spread anticipation for a bunch of its other series premiering new episodes this fall, including "American Horror Story: Double Feature," "Y: The Last Man," and "What We Do in the Shadows." While there's a reason for excitement, the announcement also carries a tinge of sadness.
Acting legend Jessica Walter, who provided the voice of Sterling's mother Mallory for 11 seasons, passed away in March 2021. It's presently unknown what the extent of Mallory's role will be for the future of the series and whether Walter recorded her Season 12 lines for the character before her passing. Walter was a singular talent, and it's hard to imagine anyone else stepping into such an iconic character, so expect more information to follow in the months to come.
For now, fans can look forward to more "Archer" starting on August 25 on FXX, with new episodes debuting on Hulu the following day.
