Secret Headquarters - What We Know So Far
There has been no greater success in recent movie history than the rise of superhero cinema. But as Marvel and DC wage war over ticket sales and audience loyalty for the adaptations of their respective comic book universes, people are beginning to see a market for other kinds of superhero stories. TV shows like "The Boys" and "Invincible" are proving that a franchise doesn't have to be part of the two biggest universes to make it big. After all, needlessly tying every superhero to one of only two franchises is hardly conducive to creativity.
That, at least, is one good thing about Paramount's upcoming film, "Secret Headquarters." Because it isn't attached to either of the major comic book companies, "Secret Headquarters" has the creative license to explore something different. Unfortunately, Paramount is taking the title's first word literally. With over a year left before the film hits theatres, Paramount's marketing team has kept all the pertinent information on the down-low. Time will likely uncover more about "Secret Headquarters," but for now, let's go over what we know about the film's release date, cast, and plot.
When will Secret Headquarters release?
So far, it seems as if "Secret Headquarters" is having a rather uneventful production process. There has been no news suggesting the film was negatively affected by COVID-19, which (as we all know) has sparked a litany of delays and other issues for a healthy chunk of movies over the past year. Deadline recently reported the film's upcoming release date over a year in advance, which tells us that Paramount still thinks highly enough of "Secret Headquarters" to properly list it on their schedule.
That may seem like a long time, but it's actually incredibly soon by many movie-making standards. Still, that gives Paramount plenty of time to polish their motion picture for its inevitable release. Furthermore, excited moviegoers can expect to see Paramount release more and more information regarding the superhero flick as we get closer to the projected debut. Assuming all goes to plan, movie audiences can expect to see "Secret Headquarters" fly into theaters on August 12, 2022.
Who is in the cast for Secret Headquarters?
While we know quite a bit about the cast for "Secret Headquarters," Paramount has released no information telling us who is set to play each character. The film's most recent addition to the cast comes in Michael Peña, who originally earned his superhero stripes playing Luis in Marvel's "Ant-Man" series. Along with Peña, the film's other known adult role comes in the form of Owen Wilson — who recently made his own Marvel debut in "Loki."
The rest of the cast plays a group of common kids headed by the film's principal character, Charlie Kirincaid. Again, Paramount has been obstinately tight-lipped in regards to each actors' respective roles, so as of now we aren't sure who is slated to play Charlie. However, IMDb has listed the names of the actors set to play Charlie and his friends, including Momona Tamada, Abby James Witherspoon, Keith L. Williams, Kezii Curtis, and Walker Scobell.
What is the plot of Secret Headquarters?
The amount of knowledge out there regarding the plot of "Secret Headquarters" just barely surpasses the info we have about the available cast members. Paramount has leaked a few plot nuggets, but they are woefully bereft of details. According to a separate article from Deadline, "Secret Headquarters" focuses on Charlie Kincaid, a young man who stumbles on every kid's fantasy when he learns of a Batcave-like secret hideout that exists underneath his house.
As any proper child would, Charlie swiftly shows his neighborhood friends the mysterious sanctum. The group even starts to expect that Charlie's dad may be more than he appears. However, the excitement comes to a screeching halt when they are faced with a variety of super-villainous threats. How Charlie and his friends face this threat — as well as the truth surrounding his estranged super-dad — are mysteries that Paramount has chosen to leave unanswered.
