The Addams Family 2 - What We Know So Far
They're creepy, they're spooky, and they're bring audiences a second dose of spooky. That's right: The premiere of "The Addams Family 2" is getting closer and closer. It's been two years since the release of "The Addams Family," the most recent feature film based on the characters created by cartoonist Charles Addams. Since the inception of America's most macabre family in the late 1930s, they have taken many forms across pop culture, appearing in comics, animated specials, live-action feature films, and the 1960s live-action television series starring John Astin and Carolyn Jones.
Directed by "Sausage Party" duo Greg Tiernan and Conrad Vernon, the animated movie once again introduces audiences to the titular Addams clan: Parents Gomez and Morticia, their children Wednesday and Pugsley, and additional family members Uncle Fester and Grandmama. "The Addams Family" sees the family chased out of their small town due to their unnerving and unusual lifestyle, forced to move again. True to form, they make their new home in a creepy abandoned mansion on the edge of town. As they settle in, their presence causes a disruption to the more traditional way of life, leading to a clash between the family and the town before Wednesday steps in to save the day.
"The Addams Family 2" was immediately greenlit, with news coming from Deadline during the first film's opening weekend in October 2019. Since then, new details on the sequel have been sparse. With the premiere on the horizon, here's everything we know so far about "The Addams Family 2."
When will The Addams Family 2 be released?
Like its predecessor, "The Addams Family 2" will be released during the creepiest month of the year: October. Specifically, "The Addams Family 2" will arrive on October 1, 2021. If all release dates stick, then "The Addams Family 2" will open in theaters against another Warner Bros. release, "Dune," the latter of which will benefit from the extra boost of a day-and-date HBO Max release as well.
The release date for "The Addams Family 2" has gone through some changes since it was first announced. When Deadline confirmed "The Addams Family 2" amid the opening weekend box office receipts for "The Addams Family," they chose a premiere date of October 22, 2021. Then, in October 2020, "The Addams Family 2" unveiled a new poster and confirmed a new release date of October 8, 2021 (via People). In January 2021, as MGM was shuffling around release dates for some of its biggest upcoming features, The Hollywood Reporter broke the news that "The Addams Family 2"s release date was pushed up one more week to October 1.
Who is in the cast of The Addams Family 2?
A majority of the famous voices that fans first heard in 2019's "The Addams Family" will be back for more spooky ooky fun times in "The Addams Family 2." Charlize Theron and Oscar Isaac will return to voice goth power couple Morticia and Gomez Addams, and Chloë Grace Moretz returns as the voice of their elder child, Wednesday Addams. While "Stranger Things" star Finn Wolfhard voiced younger child Pugsley in the first movie, there will be a new actor filling that role in "The Addams Family 2" (more on that in just a moment). In addition to Theron, Isaac, and Moretz, Nick Kroll, Bette Midler, and Snoop Dogg will return as Uncle Fester, Grandma, and Cousin It, respectively.
In addition to the majority of the original cast returning for "The Addams Family 2," the voice cast has received two exciting additions. In October 2020, Deadline reported that "SNL" alum Bill Hader and "Euphoria" star Javon "Wanna" Walton had joined "The Addams Family 2." Details around Hader's character remain thin. In fact, the only thing we know is that Hader will voice a character named Cyrus. As for Walton, we learned that he would be taking over as the voice of Pugsley.
What is the plot of The Addams Family 2?
Unfortunately, no insightful details about the plot of "The Addams Family 2" have been released. Despite the looming October 2021 release date, the only thing we know so far about the plot of the sequel is the synopsis featured on the movie's IMDb page: "The Addams get tangled up in more wacky adventures and find themselves involved in hilarious run-ins with all sorts of unsuspecting characters."
There may not be a lot of information regarding the plot of "The Addams Family 2" just yet, but we can still guess at what story could unfold in the sequel. The tease of "hilarious run-ins with unsuspecting characters" opens the door for more Addams family encounters with the terrifyingly normal folks of suburbia, whom they crossed paths with in the first movie. Although the Addams family is still ostensibly living in the quiet New Jersey hamlet of Assimilation by the time "The Addams Family 2" begins, it's still possible that a character from the family's past life could resurface to cause some trouble. There's also the question of Hader's character, Clyde, and how he figures in here — it's possible details about the character are being withheld because he is the movie's villain and/or pivotal to the story in some way.
One thing is for certain: The first "Addams Family" animated movie told a touching story that stood apart from previous "Addams Family" animated specials and live-action features. Fans looking forward to this animated sequel should remain open to all possibilities when it comes to the plot, at least until the official trailer is released.
Is there a trailer for The Addams Family 2?
Currently, there is no official trailer for "The Addams Family 2." However, with the release of the frightfully fun sequel only a handful of months away, it's likely fans we'll see a trailer very soon, but just because there is no official trailer for the sequel, it doesn't mean that there is no new material check out. In fact, MGM released a fun teaser for "The Addams Family 2" in October 2020. The teaser trailer was released a year in advance to promote the October 8, 2021 release date (via Den of Geek).

All of the characters gather in the teaser trailer to announce the October 2021 release date, even though that date has been slightly tweaked.
