New Set Pics From The Little Mermaid Give Us A Revealing Look At Prince Eric

In recent years, Disney has made a habit of adapting some of its classic animated movies into live action (or more realistic CGI in the case of the 2019 "Lion King" remake). Their recent run of adaptations began with "The Jungle Book" in 2016 and continued with films like "Beauty and the Beast," "Dumbo," and "Aladdin." Next up is "The Little Mermaid," which is currently in the process of filming.

Although Disney has yet to put out a trailer or even announce a release date for its "Little Mermaid" remake, details are slowly beginning to surface about the upcoming film. In November of 2019, for example, Jonah Hauer-King was announced as the movie's Prince Eric, who serves as the love interest of protagonist Ariel. Hauer-King was one of the last cast members announced, joining the likes of Halle Bailey in the film's central role, Melissa McCarthy as the villainous Ursula, Javier Bardem as Ariel's father, Daveed Diggs as Ariel's crab confidant Sebastian, Jacob Tremblay as Ariel's fish friend Flounder, and Awkwafina as the seagull Scuttle.

A new series of unofficial pictures taken on the set of "The Little Mermaid" have now revealed Jonah Hauer-King in costume as Prince Eric for the first time, providing fans of the original movie one of their first glimpses of what to expect from its upcoming adaptation.

Prince of the beach

Celebrity gossip website Just Jared shared this first batch of unofficial photos of Jonah Hauer-King as Prince Eric, taken on the set of "The Little Mermaid" during filming on the island of Sardinia in Italy.

In many of the photos taken during what appears to be active filming rather than in between takes, Jonah Hauer-King is dressed in tattered clothing and wading through shallow water on a rocky beach. Should the new "Little Mermaid" follow the plot of the original film, this is most likely a scene early in its story, after Prince Eric has been saved from a shipwreck by Ariel and is attempting to relocate his mermaid savior.

Also pictured is Noma Dumezweni, who will portray Prince Eric's housekeeper, Carlotta, in the film. In the original "Little Mermaid," Carlotta is a trusted friend to Prince Eric, and eventually takes care of Ariel when she's staying as a guest at Prince Eric's castle home.

These new pictures now join a batch of photos that leaked on June 10 of Halle Bailey as Ariel.
