The Wilds Season 2 - What We Know So Far
In December 2020, Amazon surprised many with the new show "The Wilds," about a group of eight teenage girls who find themselves stranded on a deserted island after a plane crash. Sounds familiar, right? Sure, at first it feels like the premise of "Lost" or "Lord of the Flies," but that's about where the similarities end.
Before the crash, the eight girls believe that they are on their way to Hawaii for a program called the Dawn of Eve focusing on women's empowerment. When they crash and must survive on their own on the island, they forget about why they were on the plane in the first place, until one too many strange things happen that lead them to suspect there's more going on. Unbeknownst to the teenagers, they are part of an orchestrated social experiment, with the plane crash staged.
The first season focuses on the teenage girls and their struggles to survive on the island, with flashes to both their lives before the crash, and after they are "rescued," being held in an unknown place and interviewed by two supposed FBI agents. Season 1 of "The Wilds" has 10 episodes total and was a huge success for Amazon, quickly earning a Season 2 renewal.
Here's everything we know so far about "The Wilds" Season 2.
What is the release date for The Wilds Season 2?
Amazon has not given any official details about when to expect the second season of "The Wilds." The series' Season 2 production faced a slight delay due to the pandemic, but it was finally able to start in April 2021, confirmed thanks to a behind-the-scenes video posted by the official "The Wilds" Twitter page.
Variety also reported in March that production for Season 2 would be moving from New Zealand, where Season 1 was filmed, to Queensland, Australia. A big reason behind this change is probably the chance to secure more federal funding from Australia, which has become a major filming location for TV and film over the past decade.
It appears that if everything goes according to schedule, then "The Wilds" Season 2 is looking at an early 2022 release date. Of course, the show could face other delays and production and post-production could take longer than expected. Still, it seems reasonable to assume that the second season of "The Wilds" will arrive in mid 2022 at the latest.
Who will be in the cast of The Wilds Season 2?
Although Season 1 of "The Wilds" left the fate of some characters up in the air, it's pretty certain that the main cast of survivors will be returning for Season 2. This includes Sophia Ali as Fatin Jadmani, Shannon Berry as Dot Campbell, Jenna Clause as Martha Blackburn, Reign Edwards as Rachel Reid, Mia Healey as Shelby Goodkind, Helena Howard as Nora Reid, Erana James as Toni Shalifoe, and Sarah Pidgeon as Leah Rilke. The second season will also bring back trauma psychologist Daniel Faber (David Sullivan), the man who claims he's an FBI agent, Dean Young (Troy Winbush), and the head of the Dawn of Eve program, Gretchen Klein (Rachel Griffiths).
Giving off big "The Maze Runner" vibes, the end of "The Wilds" Season 1 reveals that there might be a similar program that focuses on a group of male survivors, called the Twilight of Adam. Season 2 will definitely be exploring that more fully, with a whole group of young actors cast in key roles. Included in the new additions are Zack Calderon as Rafael Garcia, Aidan Laprete as Henry Tanaka, Nicholas Coombe as Josh Herbert, Charles Alexander as Kirin O'Conner, Miles Gutierrez-Riley as Ivan Taylor, Reed Shannon as Scotty Simms, Tanner Ray Rook as Bo Leonard, and Alex Fitzalan as Seth Novak (Deadline).
What will happen in The Wilds Season 2?
The end of "The Wilds" Season 1 has some huge revelations, setting up the major plotlines of Season 2. While the Twilight of Adam is one of the bigger surprises, another key moment is the reveal that Nora has known about the program and what's really going on the whole time. She's hiding the truth from everyone, even her fraternal twin sister, Rachel. In the Season 1 finale, another girl on the island named Leah figures out the truth about Nora and attempts to confront her about it. In order to get her out of the way, Nora leads Leah to an open pit, leaving her in it to either climb out or be rescued by the Dawn of Eden staff.
In the aftermath of the group's supposed rescue, they are interviewed by people who are later revealed to be Dawn of Eden staff members, hinting that Gretchen's experiment is far from over. Leah even tries to make an escape from the new facility at the end of the season, and it's unclear if she's successful. Meanwhile, the flash forwards have been missing two key characters — Nora and Martha — and their future status remains unclear. There are small hints here and there that either one or both of them have suffered a dark fate, with Rachel talking about her sister in the past tense and the Dawn of Eve staff looking through Martha's stuff. Hopefully fans of "The Wilds" won't have to wait too long for some answers.
