Isshiki Otsutsuki's Powers From Boruto Explained

At this point in the "Naruto" franchise, you have to be nothing less than a god to be considered a large-scale threat. This has been the case ever since the original "Naruto" series concluded with the introduction (and defeat) of main antagonist Kaguya Ōtsutsuki, a massively powerful being from another dimension. The sequel series, "Boruto," might have been an opportunity to bring the show down to earth. However, it quickly opts to raise the series' stakes once more by introducing other Ōtsutsukis.

Despite her inevitable failure, Kaguya is so fearsome, she redefines what "strong" means in the "Naruto" universe. Even today, she is arguably the most powerful villain in the franchise. One of her major competitors for that title, however, is her partner and enemy, Isshiki Ōtsutsuki.

Isshiki is the main antagonist of the most recent arc of "Boruto." As such, he's about as powerful as they come. Prior to his eventual defeat, he manages to go toe-to-toe with both Naruto and Sasuke, and actually comes out on top. Naruto must ultimately sacrifice Kurama, the nine-tailed fox inside of him, to overcome the celestial being.

What makes Isshiki so strong?

As an Ōtsutsuki, Isshiki is equipped with many godlike abilities. Despite being weakened while occupying Jigen (his human vessel), he is still faster and stronger than the bulk of the "Boruto" roster. Furthermore, he possesses two different dojutsu. His left eye contains a Byakugan, granting him the same abilities as the Hyuga clan. His right eye contains a unique dojutsu with the ability to shrink objects (as well as himself). Isshiki can then store these objects in a dimension of his own creation.

He creates these dimensions through his mastery of both ninjutsu and chakra manipulation. His expertise is such that he far outclasses the majority of human chakra-users. He can use Yin Release to communicate over long distances, absorb some of the series' most powerful attacks, and even seal away powerhouses like Naruto without much trouble. Plus, though he already has massive reserves of chakra, he can gain even more by draining it from the Ten-Tails beast he safeguards in an alternate reality.

Issiki does have several weaknesses, however. Many of these abilities are impossible to use (or nearly so) while occupying Jigen. As shown during his fight with Kaguya, he can also be caught off-guard. Yet even in such cases, he can be unfathomably resilient. If he has implanted a Kama on someone, he can even resurrect himself in their body after death. With all of these abilities in tandem, Isshiki isn't just strong — he's pretty much unkillable.
