Antony Starr's Remarks About The Boys Season 3 Will Get You Incredibly Pumped
This article contains spoilers for Amazon's The Boys.
With work well underway on the third season of "The Boys," many fans are wondering just how showrunner Eric Kripke is going to further dial up the insanity following the wildness of Season 2. The previous batch of episodes ended on a surprising reveal that Congresswoman Victoria Neuman (Claudia Doumit) is the one behind all those bloody head explosions at Congress. Meanwhile, Homelander (Antony Starr) has had his leadership of the Seven neutered thanks to Queen Maeve (Dominique McElligott) blackmailing the Supe using footage of the plane hijacking in Season 1.
Exploding heads, a horde of new supes at the Sage Grove facility, Stormfront revealing herself as a Nazi ... Season 2 had it all. And yet, it looks like Season 3 is set to be even more unhinged. Kripke has already confirmed that the "Herogasm" arc in the comics by Garth Ennis and Darick Robertson will feature in the next season. This storyline sees the Supes fool the world into thinking they're in space saving the planet from an alien invasion, when in reality they're all indulging in drugs, alcohol, and orgies at an exotic Vought-owned hotel. Kripke even revealed his shocked reaction to the production meeting for the episode on Twitter.
Making matters even more exciting, Homelander actor Antony Starr recently opened up about what to expect from the show's third outing, teasing just how wild things are going to get.
It's going to get freaky
When speaking to TV Line ahead of Season 3, Antony Starr explained that "The Boys" Season 3 is, in his words, "hands down one of the most enjoyable seasons of TV I've had the good fortune of being involved with!"
That's pretty high praise considering how much fun the first two seasons of the Amazon Prime show have been, both onscreen and behind the scenes. The star(r) also revealed what's ahead for fans is even better than what's come before, saying that it has been his favorite season to work on thus far, "for many reasons that I can't tell you about."
Starr also teased about what it's like working with Eric Kripke and the writers behind the satirical superhero show. "I'm always curious to see what the writers, what these crazy people, are going to cook up, and it's a pretty great feeling in Season 3 to still be surprised and excited every time you turn a page in the material." He said. "All I can say is I truly believe the fans are going to freak out at Season 3."
With the "Herogasm" arc on the way, it's possible that "The Boys" might push the limits of what a superhero TV show can do — and get away with. "The Boys" has certainly never shied away from obscene violence or controversial topics — leaning hard into everything that made the comics so great in a self-aware manner. And if Antony Starr is to be believed, it sounds like Season 3 will be no different. It'll definitely be interesting to see how "Supernatural" star Jensen Ackles shakes things up when he debuts on the show as the first superhero, Soldier Boy, although he probably won't have the same coercive relationship with Homelander as the character does in the comics.
