Here's Your First Look At Peacock's MacGruber Revival
One of the most iconic characters to come out of "Saturday Night Live" is finally getting his own show. "MacGruber," based on the hilarious "Saturday Night Live" sketch parodying the original eighties adventure series "MacGyver," is headed to NBC's streaming service Peacock. The series will follow the plucky exploits of the DIY action hero MacGruber MacGyver (Will Forte) as he and his assistant Vicki St. Elmo (Kristen Wiig) use everyday items like paper clips and rubber bands to take down bad guys. According to TV Line, "MacGruber" is set to follow the events of the "MacGruber" movie that premiered over a decade ago.
Forte and Wiig will be joined by Ryan Phillippe, who played Dixon Piper in the "MacGruber" film. There are also a few additions to the cast, namely Sam Elliot, who is set to play Perry, MacGruber's father, as well as Laurence Fishburne as the highly decorated soldier General Barrett Fasoose, who also happens to be married to MacGruber's ex-wife and assistant, Vicki St. Elmo. The series will also feature Mickey Rourke as Brigadier Commander Enos Queeth, MacGruber's arch nemesis (via MSN).
Though there's no official premiere date yet, Forte recently posted a first look at the upcoming "MacGruber" series — and it looks pretty epic.
Fans are ready for MacGruber's return
Will Forte recently posted an Instagram photo from the set of "MacGruber" featuring him, Wiig, and Phillippe posing in front of a blazing sunset. There's no caption on the picture, but Phillippe's comment "Squad" sums it up nicely. Forte and Wiig's hairstyles are also in their full eighties-inspired glory, and the trio are dressed in their respective character's outfits.
