The Jackass Shark Week Special: Here's What You Need To Know
Shark Week has become an institution in its own right. The aquatic animals may be the most formidable predators in the sea, but for seven glorious days every year, people gather around their television sets to learn more about the toothy creatures. The shark-themed special may have started with documentaries, but the channel manages to up the ante every year. This year, the event will have Tiffany Haddish on board as a host throughout the proceedings (via Uproxx). Plus, one of the specials airing exclusively on Discovery+ will be "Stranger Sharks" hosted by Noah Schnapp of "Stranger Things" fame.
However, one of the most anticipated specials coming this summer sounds like a sketch idea for "Saturday Night Live." For Discovery's next Shark Week, set to begin on July 11, the network will bring together the "Jackass" crew to perform a series of "shark stunts." The special will have Johnny Knoxville, Steve-O, Chris Pontius, and some new faces performing in what's bound to be some painful outings.
"Jackass" was built on the idea of having daredevils get hurt in hilarious ways, but getting sharks involved may take things a step too far. It remains to be seen just how close the team got to ferocious sharks, so here's everything you need to know about the team's latest death-defying excursion.
The Shark Week Jackass special apparently had 'consequences'
The "Jackass" crew stopping by Shark Week comes at the perfect time. More insanity will come to theaters in the near future with the release of "Jackass 4," which is set to release on October 22, 2021. No doubt there will be plenty of promotion for that movie on Discovery, and it would make sense for us to see a trailer at some point during the festivities. As weird as it is to say, the trailer may not even be the most insane thing we see out of the "Jackass" cast that evening.
The official synopsis for the special published by Entertainment Weekly goes as follows: "Johnny Knoxville sends Steve-O, Chris Pontius, and new 'Jackass' cast members on a Shark Week mission for the ages. They'll dial up a series of shark stunts that test their bravery and threshold of pain as they put common shark myths to the test with the help of Dr. Craig O'Connell." EW goes on to bring up this quote from Steve-O: "We went all out for our 'Jackass' Shark Week special, and there were consequences. Safe to say it's going to be a hit!" With "Jackass," the consequences are bound to be of the painful variety. Right now, it's unclear if the guys had to get in the water with the sharks or if the theme is more tangential, but whatever they end up doing, it's got to hurt.
