Disney Breaks The Multiverse With New Simpsons And Loki Crossover

When you think about it, Loki and Bart Simpson are similar characters. They both tend to be outshined in their families due to the more beloved sibling. They both cause pranks and mayhem, although when push comes to shove, there's a kernel of goodness within them. And both of them have had to learn about horrific futures from someone more familiar with time travel. For those that don't know, the god of mischief watched his death at the hands of Thanos in the first episode of "Loki." Meanwhile, "The Simpsons" shows Bart learning from Professor Frink in Season 16's "Future-Drama" that he dies a minute after finding true love, and his brain is then buried in a pauper's grave.

Through all of this, it only makes sense for the two iconic characters to team up eventually, and that's precisely what we're getting, courtesy of Disney+. The streaming platform has announced that it will release a new animated short titled "The Good, the Bart, and the Loki" that will see the two iconic characters work together (via Entertainment Weekly). What's even more exciting is that Tom Hiddleston will reprise the role he made famous and voice Loki in the special.

The new special will pay tribute to the Marvel Cinematic Universe

"The Good, the Bart, and the Loki" will air on Disney+ on July 7, which is the same day "Loki" Episode 5 makes its way onto the platform. Judging from the ending of Episode 4, things will only grow direr as the series go on, so chances are high you'll need a bit of levity after viewing it. Luckily, "The Simpsons" is there to lighten things up with a special that's bound to delight animation and comic book fans alike.

According to EW, the episode will focus on Loki after Asgard has banished him, so he's sent to the one place no supervillain ever wants to trespass — Springfield. In the crossover event that will pay tribute to all that's come before in the MCU, Loki allies with Bart to take on the city's mightiest heroes. Based on a poster released by Disney+ that pays homage to "Avengers: Endgame," it looks like Springfieldians will assume the identities of iconic heroes, such as Barney Gumble playing Iron Man, Milhouse playing Hawkeye, and Moe playing Vision.

Technically, this isn't Loki's first trip to Springfield. In Season 26's "Bart's New Friend," he makes a brief cameo when Chief Wiggum becomes trapped inside a glass prison à la Magneto's cell in the "X-Men" movies. Loki comes out of nowhere and frightens him. Undoubtedly, his role on July 7's special will have a bit more substance to his grand arrival.
