Godzilla: Singular Point Season 2 - What We Know So Far
As Netflix expands into international markets, it's also begun to offer more international shows, including a wide variety of original anime series. "Godzilla: Singular Point" is just one example of the streamer's attempts to draw in international subscribers. The show began airing weekly on Netflix in Japan in March of 2021, and the entire series dropped in the U.S. on June 24.
Now that fans have seen the entirety of the show's first season, they're eager to learn more about whether the show will receive a second. In its first season, the series told the story of a world beset by the arrival of monsters, including a rapidly evolving version of Godzilla. The arrival of these monsters seems to be triggered by the broadcast of a mysterious song, and it's up to a group of core characters to unravel the mystery at the center of the series and avert a prophesied catastrophe that could mean an end to everything.
When's the release date for Godzilla: Singular Point Season 2?
Netflix has not yet made an official announcement as to whether "Godzilla: Singular Point" will be returning for a second season. It's still early, though, as the series has just debuted in its entirety for American audiences. Netflix likely wants to see how well the series performs in the weeks ahead before making a definitive decision.
Given the groundwork that has already been laid in the story, and judging by the production team behind the series, a second season seems like a major possibility. The show took several years to get from concept to reality, and that window would likely be shortened substantially in a potential second season. If the renewal order is announced soon, the series could potentially release a second season as early as late 2022 or early 2023. For now, fans will have to wait to see how the first season performs.
What characters will be in Godzilla: Singular Point Season 2?
It's impossible to say for sure which characters would be featured in a second season of "Godzilla: Singular Point", but all indications suggest that many of the characters from the show's first season would return. The show's human characters are a broad ensemble cast that includes Mei Kamino, Yun Arikawa, Satomi Kanahara, Gorō Ōtaki, Haberu Katō, and Jet Jaguar among others.
The show introduced a wide variety of additional characters over the course of its first season, and it would probably continue to do so in its second season, even as some characters in the main cast are killed off. Even the characters who die may not be gone for good though, as the post-credits teaser at the end of "Godzilla: Singular Point" Episode 13 reveals.
The teaser leaves fans to speculate about what will happen in Season 2, even as it heralds the return of a character thought to be dead.
What's the plot of Godzilla: Singular Point Season 2?
Spoilers for Season 1 ahead
No official plot description has been released by Netflix, but fans have some ideas about what Season 2 of the show could bring. The show's first season seems to wrap things up pretty nicely, with Jet Jaguar revealing that he is the key to avoiding the catastrophe and successfully stopping Godzilla.
In a post-credits scene, however, we see that everything isn't quite as simple as it may appear to be. The scene teases the construction of Mechagodzilla by the organization that discovered the Archetype particle. What's more, Mechagodzilla is being built by Ashihara, the scientist who was presumed dead and predicted the catastrophe earlier in the series.
Mechagodzilla's introduction could spur the appearance of a wave of new monsters that the show's heroes have to contend with. It's unclear exactly how Godzilla himself will return following his defeat, but Season 2 will likely deal with that development as well. As with everything this early on, we'll just have to wait and see.
