Knives Out 2 Just Hit A Huge Filming Milestone

The "Knives Out" sequel just took one step closer to being a reality.

The sequel to Rian Johnson's 2019 whodunit is one of the most anticipated upcoming movies out there. The first "Knives Out" starred Daniel Craig as the eccentric detective Benoit Blanc, who was called to investigate the suspicious death of novelist Harlan Thrombey (Christopher Plummer), whose greedy relatives all had a reason to want him dead. "Knives Out" was such a hit that Netflix paid $450 million for not one but two sequels.

Plot details about the first sequel are scarce, but Johnson has already said that it will be an all-new story starring an all-new cast besides Daniel Craig. New cast members include Kate Hudson, Leslie Odom Jr., Dave Bautista, Edward Norton, Janelle Monáe, Kathryn Hahn, Madelyn Cline, Jessica Henwick, and Ethan Hawke.

While we don't know much about the movie itself, we do have a big update on the production, courtesy of Rian Johnson himself.

The Knives Out 2 production is coming along swimmingly

On July 30, 2021, Rian Johnson announced on Twitter that the production has finished shooting all its scenes in Greece. "Bust about halfway through our shoot, that's a wrap on Greece!" Johnson wrote. "Thanks to all the wonderful folks here and our local crew, who killed it. (Metaphorically, not a spoiler)."

On June 28, when production began, Variety reported that filming was taking place on the Greek island of Spetses, and the town of Porto Heli, which are located in an affluent region known as the "Greek Riviera." That's very much in keeping with the first film, which was memorably set in the Thrombeys' sprawling Victorian mansion. Even if the sequel will tell a brand new story, it appears Benoit Blanc will still be working with well-heeled clientele.

Additional filming locations for the "Knives Out" sequel haven't been announced. A release date also hasn't been announced, but the best guess is summer 2022. We can't wait.
