The Walking Dead: World Beyond Season 2 - What We Know So Far
What happens after the beginning of the end, when the massive changes that have shaken the world no longer seem new to everyone in it?
That's one question that "The Walking Dead: World Beyond" attempts to answer. This new vision of a core group who came of age in the post-apocalypse takes the franchise in new and sometimes surprising directions, as the young cast of characters wrestles with questions of whether survival was possible or even desirable in the long-term, and what it might take to make it so. The powers that be in their part of their country (and in their part of the timeline) have their own ideas about what it takes to make the world a better place, and they have proven willing to sacrifice a lot more in order to get their way.
The spinoff may not be the best-loved or most-watched product in the franchise's history, but it will get ten more episodes to finish its story this fall. Here's what we know so far about what to expect from Season 2 of "The Walking Dead: World Beyond."
When will The Walking Dead: World Beyond Season 2 premiere?
Fans of "The Walking Dead: World Beyond" have a few more months to wait for the debut of Season 2. The show announced during its panel at Comic-Con in July that the second season will premiere on October 3 on AMC.
That means its new episodes will overlap slightly with those of the flagship series, the 11th season of which premieres August 22. The first batch of new episodes from "The Walking Dead" Season 11 will run until October 10. On October 17, new episodes of "Fear the Walking Dead" Season 7 will premiere, meaning "The Walking Dead: World Beyond" will always have the support of at least one of its older siblings as it finishes out its run.
"The Walking Dead: World Beyond" won't have the opportunity to go as long as either of its predecessors, however. It had already been announced that the series would be concluding at the end of its second season, so fans can expect that wherever the show is going, it's going to try to get there quick.
Who will be in the cast of The Walking Dead: World Beyond Season 2?
Who's still alive to come back for another season?
Alexa Mansour and Aliyah Royale will return as Hope and Iris Bennett, the adopted sister duo at the center of the show. Their traveling companions, Elton and Silas, played by Nicolas Cantu and Hal Cumpston, respectively, are returning as well. Nico Tortorella will be back as Campus Colony head of security, Felix Carlucci, and Jelani Alladin also returns as Felix's boyfriend and former security officer Will Campbell. Judging from the first clip shown at Comic-Con, he'll have a big part to play in whatever happens in Season 2 – Deadline reports he's been upgraded to series regular.
Annet Mahendru remains in the fold as Huck, the tough-minded security officer determined to complete her mission in Season 1. Her mother on the show, CRM lieutenant colonel Elizabeth Kublek, is played by veteran actress Julia Ormond. Joe Holt will be back as Hope and Iris' father, the scientist Leo Bennett, who's being held by the CRM.
In addition to these mainstays, a couple of other characters with small parts to play in the first season are said to be back for another round with the empties and human threats of this post-post-apocalyptic world. Ted Sutherland reprises his role as Percy, while Natalie Gold will play CRM scientist Lyla Belshaw.
What is the plot of The Walking Dead: World Beyond Season 2?
When last we left our heroes, Hope, the "asset" sought by the CRM for her intelligence and mechanical intuition, was willingly going into the custody of the group and Kublek, which is where Huck had been working to get her all along. What the Season 1 finale revealed that the CRM doesn't realize is that her brilliance is reliant on her partnership with Iris, who, unfortunately, the CRM is likely attempting to kill.
The teaser shown off at Comic-Con hints at this thread of the story. In it, Will Campbell is first shown running for his life, trying to escape into a stand of trees as his attacker shoots his companion. In the next scene, he's explaining what happened to Felix and Iris, whom he encountered at the end of Season 1, catching them up on everything they missed. This includes the total destruction of the Campus Colony, and the role of the CRM in it. Will doesn't have many answers for their questions, but he tells them the CRM is sure to kill him if it catches up to him, which is likely now true for everyone.
