Stephen Lang Provides An Exciting Update On Avatar 2 And 3

It has been 12 years since director James Cameron's "Avatar" hit the big screen, and yet the property hasn't totally faded from public consciousness. At the time of its release, it was one of the most buzz-worthy and popular films around, earning over $2 billion at the worldwide box office — making it the highest-grossing movie of all time — and dazzling audiences with its stunning visuals and revolutionary 3D capabilities. Not to mention, it boasted an all-star cast including Sam Worthington, Zoe Saldana, Sigourney Weaver, and more.

With all of those elements in play, "Avatar" sure sounds like a grand introduction to a fruitful franchise, right? Well, not exactly, seeing as any continuation to its story at the movies has yet to come to fruition. However, in recent years, Cameron has made great strides in giving fans the sequels they've desired for ages, getting production started, and providing behind-the-scenes looks now and again to further build anticipation. As of this writing, "Avatar 2" is primed to premiere on December 16, 2022, and "Avatar 3" will follow suit on December 20, 2024, with several more additions on their way down the pipeline.

Having kept moviegoers waiting long enough, James Cameron and his cast are currently hard at work building on the legacy of the original "Avatar" movie. We've just caught wind of a thrilling update on their efforts, courtesy of actor Stephen Lang.

Stephen Lang's work on Avatar 2 and 3 is completed

For those who don't recall, Stephen Lang played the villainous Colonel Miles Quaritch in "Avatar" — a corrupt military man who sought to annihilate the Na'vi people, if necessary, to exploit Pandora's natural resources. His greed leads him astray, however, as Neytiri (Saldana) ultimately kills him to save Jake Sully's (Worthington) life. Be that as it may, Lang apparently has more of Quaritch's story to tell in the next two "Avatar" sequels, which he recently revealed he has finished filming on.

"My acting work on both 'Avatar 2' and '3' is complete. I might have to go back and do a line here and there, but I'm really done," Lang told Entertainment Weekly in August of 2021, going on to praise James Cameron, the production team, and the rest of the cast for their tireless efforts in fleshing out the "Avatar" universe. He also touts his excitement in seeing the final product, adding, "I'm looking forward to it as much as everyone else. It's been so long in the making, so long a part of my life."

How Miles Quaritch will return from the grave remains to be seen, but surely the answer will come in due time. After all, when it comes to James Cameron's budding "Avatar" world, we still have a lot to learn.
