Dave Chappelle Is Back In The Trailer For His Netflix Standup Specials
This truly is a celebration.
Believe it or not, it's been more than a decade since Dave Chappelle walked away from Chappelle's Show and largely vanished from the public eye. And it's been 12 years since he released his last concert standup special. But even he must realize that the world has never needed him more.
He'll return with three Netflix specials this year, and the first full trailer for a pair of them reveals that he's still in top form. The first two specials come from Chappelle's personal vault, including Dave Chappelle: The Age of Spin (filmed at The Palladium in Los Angeles in March 2016) and Dave Chappelle: Deep in the Heart of Texas (filmed at Austin City Limits Live at the Moody Theater in Austin, TX in April 2015). Both specials will premiere March 21.
Netflix released the following statement: "Dave Chappelle is a legendary voice in comedy–searing, vital, and now more than ever, essential. Dave's three new specials promise to be some of the most anticipated events in comedy, and we are honored he will mark his global return on Netflix."
It's further proof that Netflix is making a heavy push for high-profile standup specials. The streaming service also has deals with Chris Rock, Dana Carvey, Joe Rogan, Gabriel Iglesias, Michael Che, Reggie Watts, and Colin Quinn.
While we wait for the special to drop, check out why Chappelle is more important than you think.
