Watch The First Trailer For Netflix's Mystery Science Theater 3000 Revival
The first trailer for Netflix's Mystery Science Theater 3000 revival is here, and it looks like the new show has retained many of the same wacky, off-the-cuff qualities of the original. In the reboot, which was funded through a Kickstarter campaign by original creator Joel Hodgson, comedian Jonah Ray stars as Jonah Heston, who will be forced by the villainous Kinga Forrester (Felicia Day) and TV's Son of TV's Frank (Patton Oswalt) to sit through a number of really, really awful movies. Ray will be backed up by two robots voiced by comedians Baron Vaughn and Hampton Yount.
The Kickstarter campaign for the reboot was the biggest for a film on Kickstarter ever, earning more than $5.7 million and surpassing donations for the Veronica Mars movie for the top spot. The trailer indicates that the revival will be all about fan service, showing at least one of the long-requested movies being watched: Reptilicus, the 1961 Danish-American movie about a prehistoric monster discovered by a group of copper miners. The trailer also shows that the revival will keep the similar choppy filming style from the original, which should keep many fans of the original happy.
Mystery Science Theater 3000 will hit Netflix in the not too distant future: April 14. In the meantime, read up on the untold truth of the original show.
