Baby Groot Gets His Groove On In Guardians Vol. 2 International Trailer
Good news, Guardians fans: you won't have to wait until Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2's May 5 premiere to see Baby Groot show off his signature dance moves. Marvel has dropped the second global look at the upcoming sequel, and it features a sneak peek at the tiny galaxy-saver grooving and shaking.
At around 40 seconds into the trailer, Baby Groot throws his hands up and bounces his knees as "Fox on the Run," the '70s power-pop track from British band Sweet, plays in the background. Though the dance break is lightning quick, lasting only a few seconds, it will likely hold Guardians hopefuls over until the film officially hits theaters.
By the looks of the international trailer, Baby Groot is definitely following in his own footsteps for the second installment, keeping up with his stellar dance skills first shown in the 2014 original. Many have questioned whether the pint-sized Guardian's moves, particularly his free-flowing sways to the Jackson 5's "I Want You Back," are the work of computer generation. Writer/director James Gunn recently cleared the air and stated that he's to thank for Baby Groot's famed dance steps, which will only get bigger and better in Vol. 2.
"Yes, I still do all of Groot's dancing in the film, in a much bigger way," Gunn explained. "I actually had to do like a full day's worth of dancing to get Groot's dance down this time. Last time it was me in front of an iPhone, and this time it's me dancing on a huge soundstage and shooting it from five different angles."
Also featured in the international trailer, which is entirely dubbed in German, are a few extra glimpses at the team in action. Though we see recycled material like Rocket (Bradley Cooper) and Star-Lord (Chris Pratt) having their usual "who's actually the best pilot in the universe" spat, the global look centers on high-energy action sequences fans anticipate from a Guardians film. Gamora (Zoe Saldana) dodges space bullets, Drax (Dave Bautista) flies toward the sky, and Rocket preps his launcher for battle.
Humor is at the forefront of the latest look as well. After Rocket tells Baby Groot, "The fate of the universe lies on your shoulders," Groot accidentally grabs Yondu's (Michael Rooker) underwear. Unsure if the tiny hero can actually protect the universe, especially given the undergarment mishap, Rocket sighs, "We're all going to die." Additionally, the text narration that flashes between scenes states, "This Spring, everyone can save the galaxy... at least once."
