What Criminal Minds Fans Really Thought About Rossi And Krystall's Wedding
"Criminal Minds" focuses mainly on the adventures of the Behavioral Analysis Unit of the FBI as they track down the most dangerous serial killers in the country, but there's a lot more to the series than merely the suspense and intrigue of charting the psychology of a killer and bringing them to justice. The interpersonal relationships between the characters matter too, and over the course of nearly 16 years' worth of "Criminal Minds," we've bonded with a number of characters on the BAU and been privy to their best and worst moments.
When David Rossi (Joe Mantegna) and Krystall Richards (Gail O'Grady) wed in the Season 14 episode "Truth Or Dare," the moment was a happy one, with the bride and groom and fellow BAU agents savoring the joyful occasion and genuinely enjoying themselves. While that was the case on television, the wedding itself received a quite different reaction online.
A lackluster wedding reception
In a reddit post regarding "Truth Or Dare," user u/Lost_Compote made an observation regarding the wedding itself: "Anyone else think their wedding was kind of depressing? Like we have Reid and JJ all awkward with each other and then the ONLY people that showed up were Rossi's work friends and the daughters? Like no friends of Kristal or other family members like siblings, cousins, nieces or nephews? There were a total of like 10 people at that wedding and it was just weird."
Weddings are generally envisioned as large, lavish affairs attended by multitudes of friends and family celebrating, wishing the best for the bride and groom and their future together. In the episode, the reception consists largely of the BAU dancing and laughing and generally having a good time, something they very much needed after taking down the killer of the week. So why would the wedding be so sparsely attended?
A simple ceremony and an intimate gathering
In a reply to the aforementioned post, u/LordCoke-16 replied, "It could be possible that Rossi's other friends are tired of him getting married all the time." Rossi had been married to three wives in his time, Krystall among them. The pair had been married previously and divorced after a rushed wedding in Vegas, but met again later in life and rekindled their romance. u/Kywilli concurred, saying, "Right, like him and Krystall have already been married once, and it wasn't big then either.
While we can only speculate as to the whys of the marriage ceremony's size (perhaps it was only meant to be an intimate affair with the BAU colleagues attending), the fact that it was a small gathering certainly created a bit of a stir for fans of "Criminal Minds." Still, the episode ends on a happy note of celebration and an affirmation of the shared bonds of friendship and family, reminding us that sometimes, it's not the quantity of the guests in attendance that matters, but the quality.
