Ghosted - What We Know So Far
There appears to be a resurgence as of late of good, old-fashioned adventure movies coming back into the fold. From "Raya and the Last Dragon" to "Jungle Cruise," there's just something about watching two huge movie stars team up to go on an epic quest together. It looks as though the renaissance isn't going to end any time soon, as an exciting new project has just been announced — "Ghosted."
On the surface, it may sound like a romantic comedy about a boy who ghosts a girl he's chatting with on Tinder. In actuality, The Hollywood Reporter makes it sound like an awesome adventure flick to be directed by Dexter Fletcher ("Rocketman") and written by Paul Wernick and Rhett Reese ("Deadpool"). The movie's currently set for an exclusive release on Apple TV+, so with that kind of talent behind the scenes, audiences should be in for a rip-roaring good time.
Here's everything you need to know about "Ghosted" right now.
What's the release date for Ghosted?
It's clear that "Ghosted" is still very much within the early pre-production stages. As such, no release date has been announced yet for when we might see it debut on the streaming platform. Assuming filming can get underway in 2022, it would make the most sense for the film to drop at some point in 2023.
If the film were receiving a traditional theatrical release, we would surmise it's the perfect film for a summer release. Action-adventure movies tend to do well during that time, and it would make for an enticing prospect among filmgoers who want to see something not based on pre-existing intellectual property.
However, things have changed over the last few years. Now, streamers have no problem premiering any genre of film at any point in the year. An excellent example of this is how Netflix had the "summer of frights" in 2021 with the "Fear Street" trilogy instead of having those movies debut in October when it was closer to Halloween. Expect more details to come surrounding this project in the following months.
Who's in the cast for Ghosted?
There are only two names attached to "Ghosted" as of this writing, but they're some of the biggest movie stars in the world right now. First on deck is Scarlett Johansson ("Black Widow," "Under the Skin"), who's carving a nice niche for herself over at Apple TV+. Before we see "Ghosted," the actress will star in another Apple original, "Bride." In it, she plays "an ideal wife — the singular obsession of a brilliant entrepreneur." It appears as though the actress won't have to look too hard for work, even in the aftermath of her lawsuit with Disney.
Johansson will be joined by one of her "Avengers" co-stars in the form of Chris Evans ("Captain America: The Winter Soldier," "Knives Out"). Anyone who has seen "Winter Soldier" already knows what outstanding chemistry the two artists already have together. Regardless of who fills out the supporting cast, these two actors' presence is more than enough to garner ample attention to the project.
What's the plot of Ghosted?
Not much is known about "Ghosted" at this point, but we do have an idea of the film's general vibe. According to THR, the film has the following description: "A high-concept romantic action-adventure in the vein of 'Romancing the Stone,' the 1984 adventure movie that starred Michael Douglas and Kathleen Turner." You don't exactly see those kinds of movies too often these days, so this is bound to be a real treat for fans, especially seeing how they'll be able to watch it from the comfort of their homes with the Apple TV+ app.
In recent months, Apple has made a serious push to acquire some high-profile projects to fill out its streaming service's roster. From Martin Scorsese's next film to a movie about the origins of the video game "Tetris," there's a lot for audiences to look forward to. If you don't have an Apple TV+ subscription already, now would be an excellent time to start.
