Alien: Covenant Prologue Reveals What Happened To Elizabeth Shaw
Never trust an android.
In honor of Alien Day (which was just announced a few weeks ago), 20th Century Fox released a new prologue that ties together the end of Prometheus and the beginning of Alien: Covenant. It helps to answer the question of what happened to Dr. Elizabeth Shaw (Noomi Rapace), and why she doesn't seem to be around for Covenant. She did show up as a hologram in a teaser, but holograms aren't all that reliable either.
In the clip which is eerily reminiscent of the beginning of Prometheus, the android David (Michael Fassbender) explains in a voiceover that he and Shaw managed to take off in an Engineer ship. Although we sort of figured that's what happened, it's what happens next that remained a mystery.
It turns out that Shaw decided to reassemble David (who, if you remember, was previously decapitated) despite the fact that he wreaked havoc on her crew. The pair set off for the Engineers' home planet to meet the makers of humanity, like Shaw wanted to do in the first place.
Although David was moved by Shaw's compassion, he apparently harbored more sinister motives. After Shaw went into slumber in a sleep capsule, David says he was "alone again," hinting that she probably won't wake up anytime soon.
When the ship arrives at its destination, it hovers above a crowd of Engineers as David says, "Look on my works, ye mighty, and despair," as he drops countless Xenomorph eggs upon them.
It's not immediately clear if the scene will appear in the movie. Another previously released prologue of a dinner scene aboard the Covenant ship features footage that isn't in the final cut. But it's hard to believe this kind of exposition won't be in Alien: Covenant, especially considering how closely it mirrors the opening of Prometheus.
But we'll know in a few weeks, as Alien: Covenant lands in theaters on May 19. While we wait, find out why the movie will blow everyone away.
