Netflix October 2021 - The Best New Movies And TV Shows To Watch

The leaves are changing color, the sun has stopped actively trying to kill us, and the blood of every Bed Bath & Beyond loyalty card holder runs thick with pumpkin spice-flavored Coffee Mate. Twitter handles are given a spooky coat of paint, turning people named "Gary Smith" into people named "Scary Smith" and people named "Shell E. Tonne" into people named "Monster Halloween Name." Shell never really got the hang of that whole thing.

Yes, once again, the world has continued to exist long enough for a new month to come into being, and that means Netflix can be expected to put out new content. It's a fair expectation — they do this every month — but what's coming to the streaming service this time around? More importantly, is any of it the follow up to that first round of "Sexy Beasts?" We've been waiting for ages to find out what it would look like if a horse or a pineapple went on a date with a very large bee.

Netflix has acreage of new original shows

Let's start with the good news — no, the great news. "Sexy Beasts" is well on its way to returning to your television screens, friends. Come October 7, each and every one of us will have the further adventures of a series of amorous haunted Showbiz Pizza singers to binge. And this time? This time there's a person disguised as a rabbit. How about that?

If you like the idea of people falling in love without the benefit of seeing one another's faces, but you get enough man/animal chimeras in your bad dreams, consider that "Love is Blind: Brazil" hits Netflix one day earlier, on October 6. More episodes of the series are scheduled to trickle out on a weekly basis for the following two Wednesdays. At the opposite end of that spectrum, for viewers who would prefer less romance and more nightmares, "You" returns for its third season on October 15.

Netflix's original movie selection keeps getting bigger

In the mood for a movie night? Hoping to get pulled into something you've never seen before and get the old gears turning, or just zone out on something fresh without running the risk of waking up seventeen episodes later with no memory of what happened to your weekend? Netflix, as per usual, can be counted on to provide untold hours of original feature films.

Take, for example, "Night Teeth," the story of a chauffeur who winds up — whoops — with a back seat full of vampires, each of whom presumably possesses teeth at night. Coming to you courtesy of director Adam Randall, it drops on October 20.

Did you watch "Hamilton" and leave with an overwhelming desire to watch more musicals about political figures gone too soon with a distaste for the British monarchy, look no further than "Diana: The Musical," dropping on October 1.

October is a great month for familiar movies

October's harvest of familiar favorites is a bountiful one. The list of imported titles is impressive — fans of anachronistic musical cues and two guys on horses trying to hit each other with sticks will be happy to hear that "A Knight's Tale" shows up on October 1. That same day, you can catch two out of three movies in Robert Rodriguez's Mexico trilogy, "Desperado" and "Once Upon a Time in Mexico." What's more, fans of the director can also look forward to the original three entries in the "Spy Kids" saga.

Want a two and a half-hour reminder that Alan Rickman never saw a scene he couldn't steal? "Robin Hood: Prince of Thieves" serves the sentiment up with a spoon. Going about your "Cobra Kai" viewing experience with the eye of a completionist? Check out 2010's "The Karate Kid" remake.

Stay glued to your screen with new Netflix documentaries

Stop us if you've heard this one, but post-World War II German getaways to South America have a history of winding up as objective stone-cold bummers. For receipts, Netflix presents "A Sinister Sect: Colonia Dignidad," the inarguably tragic story of the followers of Paul Schäfer in Chile in the second half of the 20th century.

On October 6, the streaming service will debut "Bad Sport," chronicling "global controversies and scandals" in the world of professional sports. If something a little lighter is more up your alley, check out season three of "The Movies That Made Us" on October 12, featuring looks at classics like "Aliens," "A Nightmare on Elm Street," "Robocop," and "Elf." On October 20, you can watch "Found," Amanda Lipitz's documentary about three American teenagers adopted from China who discover that they're related after taking an only genetics test and decide to travel the world together.

Favorite TV shows abound on Netflix in October

Good news for Netflix subscribers eager to answer whether they are or are not afraid of the dark, as season one of "Are You Afraid of the Dark?" hits the platform on October 1 to scare the snot out of your inner child. Five days after that, James Spader returns to unblinkingly stare into your soul on "The Blacklist" season eight.

The big news, of course, is the arrival of the debut season of "Power Rangers Dino Fury," the 28th season of the show so far which premiered on Nickelodeon back in February. Generally considered to be one of the top four "Power Rangers" entries to involve dinosaur costumes, it's almost guaranteed to be a morphenomenal time for viewers of all ages.

On a side note, some show from the '90s called "Seinfeld" is supposed to pop up on October 1. We hadn't heard anything about it, so we looked it up, and apparently it's not even about anything. Presumptive 0/10 stars; Probably safe to give it a pass.

The Netflix Family family just keeps growing

As countless parents across America can attest after discovering that their children's first words were "tuh-dummmmm," Netflix is for the whole family. With that in mind, they've created and co-produced a cornucopia of new offerings for kids and adults.

If you and yours can't get enough of the half-shark, half-dog hijinks of "Sharkdog," steel yourself for a high-octane burst of seasonal chimera adventures with "Sharkdog's Fintastic Halloween." That drops on October 15, but any young ones hoping to get in the Halloween spirit early can look for "Scaredy Cats" starting on the first of the month.

Have you been losing your mind in anticipation of learning what kinds of babies that club is going to sit on next? Wonder no more: "The Baby-Sitters Club" returns for a second season come October 11. Maybe you, like millions of others, continue to struggle with your fanatical compulsion to catch 'em all. Netflix can help salve that itch with "Pokémon the Movie: Secrets of the Jungle," coming October 8.

Say goodbye to these titles leaving Netflix in October

And now, a moment of silence for our fallen comrades — those that gave up their space on the Netflix servers so that others might flourish, as fallen leaves blanketing the seedlings of Autumn. "Death Race: Beyond Anarchy," for example. That's gone as of October 1.

Make time in your busy schedule to watch "Rango" before it moseys on down that dusty trail on October 27. Take a moment to consider "Real Steel" and its underlying lesson that real steel is the friends you make along the way; It leaves Netflix on October 6. Take advantage of "Angel Has Fallen" before October 3, when you will wake up to find that "Angel Has Fallen" has fallen.

The big purge comes at the end of the month, with classics like "Tenacious D in The Pick of Destiny" and "Catch Me If You Can" bowing out, alongside all of "Billy on the Street." "Inception" leaves the platform the same day, if it was ever even there to begin with.
