Purple Hearts - What We Know So Far
While we've been getting book-to-screen adaptations for decades, there are always new and exciting book releases that fans can't wait to see on screen. Some highly anticipated upcoming adaptations include "Dune" from director Denis Villeneuve, "Deep Water" starring Ben Affleck and Ana de Armas based on the book by Patricia Highsmith, who also wrote "Strangers on a Train" and "The Price of Salt," and the Netflix adaptation of the bestselling novel "Where the Crawdads Sing" by Delia Owens.
To add to that, another upcoming Netflix adaptation called "Purple Hearts" should definitely be on everyone's radar. The movie will be based on the adult romance book of the same name by author Tess Wakefield, starring many talented up-and-coming actors. Over the years, Netflix has proven its capability in creating sweet and romantic movies and television in a variety of languages, and "Purple Hearts" will soon be another on the list.
Here's everything we know so far about the upcoming film "Purple Hearts."
What is the release date for Purple Hearts?
Right now, there is no official release date yet for the romance film "Purple Hearts," but according to Deadline, the movie is currently in development in Southern California. As listed on Production Weekly, "Purple Hearts" started production in August 2021. The time needed for production to be completed is unclear, as the film will have a lot of music that might take a while to write and produce. Grammy nominee Justin Tranter will be creating original songs for "Purple Hearts," while Sofia Carson, who is starring in the film, will co-write. But because this is a romance and not a genre film, "Purple Hearts" will probably not require too long of a post-production period since there's no need for CGI or other substantial edits, save sound design. Either way, "Purple Hearts" will definitely be released on Netflix sometime next year, possibly mid 2022.
Who is in the cast of Purple Hearts?
"Purple Hearts" will feature Carson, who some might know from the "Descendants" film series and Netflix's "Feel the Beat," as an aspiring singer-songwriter named Cassie Salazar who works at a bar in Austin, Texas to support herself as she pursues her lifelong dream. Co-starring in the film is Nicholas Galitzine, who recently starred in Amazon's "Cinderella" opposite Camila Cabello. Galitzine will play a young and handsome soldier named Luke Morrow who crosses paths with Cassie, leading them on a strange journey together that might surprisingly lead to love.
Also starring in the upcoming movie are Chosen Jacobs, who previously starred in the recent Stephen King adaptation of "It" and "Castle Rock," Kat Cunning, also known as Katrina Cunningham, of Netflix's "Trinkets," John Harlan Kim of "The Librarians" and "9-1-1," and Anthony Ippolito from another Netflix project, "Grand Army." Filling out the cast are Sarah Rich as a character named Hailey, Linden Ashby from "Teen Wolf," and Scott Deckert of "Venom" (IMDb).
What is Purple Hearts about?
The new film "Purple Hearts," which will feature a lot of music and singing, will tell the story of Cassie and Luke, whose lives tangle together in ways they don't expect. Looking at the official Goodreads summary of the book, "Purple Hearts" is about "when a soldier with a troubled past and a struggling songwriter agree to a marriage of convenience for the military benefits, neither expects much after saying 'I do.' Then tragedy strikes, and the line between what's real and what's pretend begins to blur in this smart and surprising romance."
The story features a marriage of convenience, with both parties having their own reasons for needing the marriage. For Cassie, she has diabetes, leading to huge medical bills, and she wants the marriage so that she can get the better health insurance. For Luke, well, you will have to wait and see what his "desperate reasons" for wanting to get married are. As with any romance like this, expect Cassie and Luke, two very different people with contrasting views of the world, to come together in surprising ways, with the possibility of their fake marriage becoming a real one.
