Adam Scott Freaks Out About Meeting Mark Hamill

Big Little Lies actor Adam Scott did what any of us would do when meeting our childhood hero: completely freaked out.

During a Jimmy Kimmel Live! interview between Scott and Kristen Bell, the Veronica Mars actress who was taking the reins from Kimmel as guest host while he takes paternity leave, Scott revealed a pretty heartbreaking story that ended in a dream being realized.

By the time Scott was two-years-old, he was absolutely obsessed with Star Wars, but more specifically, the saber-wielding Luke Skywalker. Scott recalled writing Hamill a letter requesting his attendance at his birthday party. But, unfortunately, Hamill was a no-show. "I thought at least, if he got it, and he was able to, if his schedule was clear, he was probably going to come," Scott said to Bell. "He didn't show up. And, you know what? I remember not being crushed or anything–it was fine, I knew he must have been incredibly busy."

Just as Scott was finishing up his story, the Star Wars theme music blared over the loudspeakers, and Scott's eyes widened. "No way, no f***ing way," Scott muttered, suspecting what may come next.

Much to his surprise, and to the amazement of the studio audience, Hamill emerged himself from the set's back curtains for a chance to make amends. "Are you kidding me? Are you serious?" Scott muttered. Lightsaber in hand, Hamill approached Scott and said, "I'm sorry I missed your birthday."

"I was checking my diary, and that week I had two other birthdays, a bar mitzvah, and a supermarket opening," Hamill joked. Clearly impacted by the weight of meeting his idol, Scott declared, "This really is one of the best moments of my life." We think he speaks for us all in saying that.

Take a look at the surprise appearance, which took fittingly place on Star Wars Day, in the video above.

Fans can catch Scott in the HBO limited series Big Little Lies, also starring Reese Witherspoon, Nicole Kidman, Laura Dern, Zoe Kravitz, Shailene Woodley, James Tupper, and Alexander Skarsgard. Hamill's next big project is, of course, Star Wars: The Last Jedi, set for release on December 15. While we wait for more Star Wars goodness, check out the biggest mysteries surrounding The Last Jedi.
