Here's Where You Can Watch Despicable Me
Since its release in 2010, it's safe to say the animated film "Despicable Me" has made its mark on pop culture. The first film in what would come to be a major franchise follows Gru, a criminal mastermind who uses three orphans to aid his master plan and ends up loving the children as his own. Of course, we can't forget to mention the little yellow guys that follow Gru around, appropriately called Minions, who have since taken over the internet, resulting in their own spinoff film. An all-star cast including Steve Carell, Jason Segel, and Kristen Wiig, also lent their voices in "Despicable Me," no doubt contributing to its success at the box office, grossing over $500 million worldwide during its release (via The Numbers).
Subsequent films in the "Despicable Me" franchise would go on to perform even better in the box office, with the last two films, "Minions" and "Despicable Me 3," each grossing over $1 billion worldwide. To keep the momentum going, Illumination CEO Chris Meledandri announced to Bloomberg in 2017 that a "Despicable Me 4" was in the works, however, no news of the sequel has been heard since. But, to follow the massive success of the spinoff film, "Minions," is a sequel titled "Minions: The Rise of Gru" slated to release in summer 2022. If 2022 seems just too far away, fear not, as we live in the golden age of streaming services; that means there are plenty of ways you can still get your Minion fix, specifically with the first film.
Where can you watch Despicable Me?
What better way to prepare for the "Minions" sequel than by starting with the original "Despicable Me?" Luckily, you can catch up on all the action from Gru and his Minions on a variety of streaming services.
If you happen to have a subscription to Peacock, then you're in luck and can stream "Despicable Me" right now. You can also stream the film on fuboTV and Philo with a subscription. If you aren't subscribed to these streaming services, unfortunately, you'll have to fork over some cash. "Despicable Me" is available on YouTube, Vudu, Google Play, Apple TV, and Amazon Prime Video for as low as $4 to rent and $15 to own. There's also the option of Hulu if you have the live TV premium subscription.
We will be eagerly waiting until 2022 for "Minions: The Rise of Gru" and hoping to hear news on the release date for "Despicable Me 4," but until then, we can always go back to the hilarious film that started it all, "Despicable Me."
