The CW Cancels Frequency, No Tomorrow
The CW has handed down their first cancelations of the season. According to The Hollywood Reporter, No Tomorrow and Frequency won't be getting second seasons.
Frequency, based on the 2000 film of the same name, followed an NYPD detective (Peyton List) in 2016 who realized she was able to talk to her deceased father in 1996 via his old ham radio. As she deals with the unexpected ramifications of her actions, she must team with her father to solve a decades-old murder case. The series came from Supernatural's Jeremy Carver and also starred Riley Smith, David Kelley, Mekhi Phifer, Anthony Ruivivar, Lenny Jacobson, and Daniel Bonjour.
While Frequency had a loyal fan base, it averaged just a 0.4 rating with 1.5 million viewers. Insiders have expected the series to be headed for cancelation, as its star List has already signed on to CBS' space drama pilot Mission Control.
No Tomorrow was created by The Good Wife's Corinne Brinkerhoff. The show followed Tori Anderson's Evie, a woman living in Seattle who becomes involved with a free-spirited apocalyst (Joshua Sasse) who has a list of things he wants to accomplish before the world ends in eight months and twelve days. Evie calls on her friends to see if she can take him seriously while still helping him to complete his bucket list. Jonathan Langdon, Sarayu Blue, Jesse Rath, and Amy Pietz also starred.
The show also wasn't a hit in the ratings, earning a 0.3 rating and one million viewers. It also failed in The CW's hopes that it would join critical darlings like Crazy Ex-Girlfriend and Jane the Virgin, being left out of the awards show conversation despite accruing a 90 percent on Rotten Tomatoes.
The CW has already renewed most of their series for next season, including Arrow-verse staples Arrow, The Flash, Legends of Tomorrow, and Supergirl, along with new hit Riverdale and apocalyptic drama The 100. The fate of mid-season shows The Originals and iZombie is still up in the air. While we wait to see which shows will be returning for next year, see the shows that will blow you away this year.
