Deadpool Animated Series Coming To FXX
Deadpool is getting the animated treatment. According to The Hollywood Reporter, Marvel has ordered a cartoon series about the merc with the mouth, set to air on FXX in 2018.
Atlanta's Donald Glover, who has a mysterious part in Marvel's upcoming Spider-Man: Homecoming, will write, executive produce, and serve as a co-showrunner on the series alongside his brother Stephen Glover. The show is said to be an adult-oriented action-comedy. A voice cast has not been set yet, but the writers' room is already in place in London, where Glover is currently filming the upcoming young Han Solo Star Wars anthology film.
THR reports that Marvel's Jeph Loeb and Jim Chory, both big fans of the FX series Archer, approached the network about the animated show, with the network then approaching Glover. The series will come from Marvel Television, FX Productions, and ABC Studios' ABC Signature.
"Donald Glover is an incredibly gifted and versatile artist who'll bring the untitled Marvel's Deadpool series to life with the same intense, singular vision as his breakout hit Atlanta," said FX president of original programming Nick Grad. "With the success of Legion, we're looking forward to again partnering with Marvel Television to create a series that is bold, striking and entirely original."
"How much more fun could this be? Deadpool, Donald and FX— the perfect fit for the Merc with the Mouth," Loeb added. "We're thrilled that our relationship with FX that started with Legion continues with what is sure to be a groundbreaking show in adult animation."
Ryan Reynolds' live-action Deadpool will also return in 2018, with the sequel film, also starring Josh Brolin and Glover's Atlanta costar Zazie Beetz, hitting theaters on June 1 of that year. It's unclear if the show and the films will be connected in any way.
