Twitter Is Freaking Out About Buzz's Hair In The Lightyear Trailer
There are some things that are certain in life: death, taxes, and the fact that Buzz Lightyear from "Toy Story" doesn't have hair. However, when it comes to that latter truth, Disney fans and '90s babies might want to prepare to have their worlds rocked.
The very first trailer for the "Toy Story" spin-off, "Lightyear," was released on Wednesday, October 27, and finally revealed that the human version of Buzz, who inspired the toy, actually has a full head of hair under that iconic space suit of his. The Twitterverse, of course, erupted after learning of this and immediately began wondering what Disney was ever doing covering up such beautiful locks. "Seeing Buzz Lightyear with hair feels like looking into the Ark of the Covenant like I'm not supposed to see it or my face will melt off," tweeted @rachelkillz.
Marvel star Chris Evans voices the character in the "Toy Story" prequel, a sci-fi adventure film that, according to its official synopsis, will tell the "definitive origin story of Buzz Lightyear." Taking that into account, many fans were quick to note — much to their approval and dismay — how the new Buzz even sports a hairstyle similar to Evans'.
Toy Story fans are torn over Buzz's new look
When the first "Lightyear" trailer dropped, the initial emotion that many Twitter users and "Toy Story" fans felt was shock, followed by sheer amazement and, for some, disgust. "Can't believe this man had hair the whole time," tweeted Barstool's "Lights, Camera, Pod" Twitter account, while BuzzFeed added, "This information has changed me." User @srohlett similarly wrote, "Are you telling me Buzz Lightyear has been covering this beautiful hair this whole time?"
Indeed, it seems many fans felt betrayed by the reveal, though, some said they were also equally impressed by it. "I feel like I've been lied to my whole life," tweeted @The_Zoinkster, while @itsemilllyy wrote, "I never really thought about buzz lightyear having hair and now it is the only thing on my mind." Additionally, there were others who were straight up frightened by Buzz's new hairdo. For instance, @mrjakedominguez tweeted, "Am I the only one who is weirded out by Buzz Lightyear with hair." Elsewhere, @Dylan_Macri joked, "Buzz Lightyear without his silly hat upsets me. I don't like him. He wants something from me and I don't trust him."
"Lightyear" is currently scheduled for a June 2022 release. Meanwhile, Evans revealed in a new statement (via EW) that there aren't any many projects he's done in the past that have given him the same feeling the "Toy Story" prequel has, saying, "The phrase 'a dream come true' gets thrown around a lot, but I've never meant it more in my life."
Unfortunately, while voicing the character has felt like a dream for Evans, it's clear that seeing Buzz Lightyear with hair feels like something pulled straight out of a nightmare for some "Toy Story" fans.
