What Happened To Lola On Young And The Restless?

Food truck owner and restaurateur Lola Rosales (Sasha Calle) won many hearts during her time on CBS hit "The Young and the Restless." Plucky, determined, and principled, she had a star-crossed romance with wealthy heir Kyle Abbott (Michael Mealor) that resulted in all of her dreams coming true – at least for a while.

Her love affair with Kyle was never easy; proud Lola wanted to make her own way and refused to take gifts such as an expensive purse from him. She nearly drowned in a pool when her ex-sister-in-law, Mia Rosales (Noemi Gonzalez), mistook her for another woman and shoved her under the surface. Lola ended up on death's door and in a coma. She woke up to discover that Kyle had married her romantic rival, Summer Newman (Hunter King), in return for the latter donating a life-saving piece of her liver to Lola. Despite all that, Kyle and Lola ended up married to one another after he left Summer. While they divorced less than a year after their 2019 wedding and Kyle resumed his romance with Summer, Lola and Kyle remained friends.

But romantically, the storyline choice left Lola in a bit of a lurch. After her divorce was finalized, a romance with Kyle's friend, Theo Vanderway (Tyler Johnson), fizzled. Lola briefly shared an apartment with Elena Dawson (Brytni Sarpy) before leaving town, but many wonder if she will ever return to "The Young and the Restless."

Sasha Calle has been very busy

Lola has been missing from "The Young and the Restless" because Sasha Calle recently landed a major movie role. According to Deadline, the actress was cast as Supergirl in the upcoming DC Universe film "The Flash." This makes Calle the very first Latina Supergirl in DC Comics history. The film's director, Andy Muschietti, seemed quite impressed with Calle's audition. He told the outlet that she was "destined" to play the role at the time of the casting announcement.

But what does that mean for Lola? When Calle headed off to film "The Flash," Lola left Genoa City for Florida this past May, where she's working on opening her own restaurant. She has not been heard from or spoken of since. It's quite possible that Calle might return to the role once the film wraps shooting or that the show might eventually recast the role.

It seems that "The Young and the Restless" producers are pretty proud of the actress. "The role of 'Supergirl' is a perfect fit for someone of Sasha's immense talent, and we wish her all the best as she takes on this groundbreaking role," said "Y & R" executive producer Anthony Morina and co-executive producer and head writer Josh Griffith in a joint statement released to Soaps.com at the time. That seems to leave the door wide open for Lola's future return, perhaps in the form of Calle.
