Law & Order Takes On The Menendez Murders In New True Crime Trailer
Get ready for your new true crime obsession: the first trailer for NBC's upcoming Law & Order series on the Menendez brothers is here.
The trailer, which intercuts news footage and family footage with scenes from the show, begins in 1989 in Beverly Hills, California, where the case of Erik and Lyle Menendez first captured the world's attention. The two brothers were convicted of brutally murdering their parents, despite arguments from their defense lawyer Leslie Abramson that the killings stemmed from years of sexual and physical abuse.
The trailer focuses on Edie Falco's portrayal of Abramson, with the lawyer repeatedly saying that what matters in the story isn't the what, by the why. "These boys were just little children being molded," she says. "When you terrorize people, they react precisely as you would expect them to. What these boys did is not the issue. It's why they did it."
The anthology series will feature eight hour-long episodes, led by Law & Order vet Rene Balcer with Dick Wolf as an executive producer. The only other cast member officially announced for the series is Ricki and the Flash's Gus Halper as Erik Menendez. The series will air on Thursdays on NBC this fall. While we wait, see where the cast of another true crime sensation, Making a Murderer, is now.
