Money Heist Season 5 Volume 2 Release Date, Characters, And Plot - What We Know So Far

How far would you go for some good old-fashioned dough? Some people might work an extra job or sell some old stuff on the internet. Other people, however, would rather risk life and limb robbing the most secure banks on the face of the earth. Well, the non-affluent antiheroes of Netflix's "Money Heist," also known as "La Casa de Papel," fall into the latter category, and after almost five years and five seasons, they aren't done yet.

The fifth and current season of "Money Heist" is officially slated to be the last one, but Netflix decided to split the season into two distinct parts. Volume 1 of Season 5 was already released in September 2021, and in a month or so the streaming service will release Volume 2. This situation has its upsides and downsides. On one hand, Volume 2 won't have quite as many episodes as a full season. On the other hand, we know more about its release date, cast, and plot than we would if it were an entirely new season. With that in mind, here is what we know so far about "Money Heist" Season 5 Volume 2.

What is the release date for Money Heist Season 5 Volume 2?

Thankfully, because the last chapter of "Money Heist" is simply the second half of a single season, Netflix has already announced exactly when it's going to release Volume 2. According to Variety, Season 5 Volume 2 of "Money Heist" is scheduled to debut on December 3, 2021, exactly three months after the release of Volume 1. This spells great news for longtime fans of the series who won't have to wait very long to see its conclusion, but it's also bittersweet given that this will be the final entry in the series.

Netflix is releasing the Spanish-language show internationally with dubbed translations in English, French, Italian, and German. Subtitled translations of the series include English, French, Simplified Chinese, and Traditional Chinese. Presumably, all translated versions of the series will be available when the final five episodes of "Money Heist" Season 5 are released simultaneously in December.

Who is in the cast of Money Heist Season 5 Volume 2?

As a heist series, few things are as important in "Money Heist" as the criminals themselves. This crack team of ne'er-do-wells has won the hearts and minds of fans as sympathetic antiheroes sticking it to the man while making big bucks in the process.

Of course, the team wouldn't be anything without the series' enigmatic leads, Silene "Tokyo" Oliveira (Úrsula Corberó) and The Professor (Álvaro Morte). The former serves as the narrator of the story while the latter masterminds the crew's heists. However, it isn't just up to these two to grab the cash and escape. They have a whole team behind them, including Andrés "Berlin" de Fonollosa (Pedro Alonso), Benjamin (Ramón Agirre), Raquel "Lisbon" Murillo (Itziar Ituño), Daniel "Denver" Ramos (Jaime Lorente), Mónica "Stockholm" Gaztambide (Esther Acebo), and many more (via IMDb).

So far, Season 5 has also featured some equally enigmatic antagonists trying to stop the team in the form of Inspector Alicia Sierra (Najwa Nimri), César Gandia (José Manuel Poga), and the onslaught of Spanish military and police that have been trying to prevent their robbery of the Bank of Spain. Having been trapped in the bank for days, these antagonists are pushing The Professor's team to the edge for what might be their final heist.

What is the plot of Money Heist Season 5 Volume 2?

At the conclusion of "Money Heist" Season 5 Volume 1, things could not get any worse for The Professor and his team. With Spanish troops closing in on them inside of the Bank of Spain, Tokyo sacrifices herself to give the rest some time to escape. In a dramatic showdown, she is mortally injured, and reveals to the soldiers that she has pulled all the pins on her grenade belt. The resulting explosion kills Gandia and the soldiers, while shaking both the bank and the emotions of the team.

However, their job is not done. The team still has to escape the bank and evade authorities long enough to get off scot-free. But with two of their team dead, it will be no easy task. At the same time, The Professor, along with a few others, are currently stuck with Sierra. While they currently outnumber the inspector — who just gave birth — they are still stuck in a tough situation as the disgraced officer knows their identities. Whether or not the team makes it out alive and escapes police custody will be revealed when Volume 2 of "Money Heist" Season 5 is released on December 3, 2021, on Netflix.
