What We Do In The Shadows Season 4 - What We Know So Far
Vampires living in Staten Island? Anything's possible in the world of FX's hit horror-comedy series, "What We Do in the Shadows." Based on the film by Taika Waititi and Jemaine Clement, FX's "What We Do in the Shadows" brings together a new set of characters, all of whom face the kinds of unique problems that can arise after centuries of being alive. Understandably, with four vampires, a human familiar, and a ghost-possessed doll under one roof, there's no shortage of bloody mischief to go around in the supernatural comedy series. Since it premiered in 2019, the series has received widespread critical acclaim and even scored a few Emmy nominations over the course of its run.
Most recently, the show wrapped up its third season — forcing viewers to begin thinking about its future. Thanks to a few surprising twists, the "What We Do in the Shadows" Season 3 finale offered more questions than answers about the future of the show's unique ensemble as well. Indeed, viewers may even be wondering if there will be a fourth season of the show. Fortunately, the answer is already clear — and was long before its third season's shocking final reveal was unveiled.
Here's everything you need to know about "What We Do in the Shadows" Season 4.
When is the What We Do in the Shadows Season 4 release date?
Even Jackie Daytona could have predicted that "What We Do in the Shadows" would be coming back for a fourth season. As a matter of fact, FX showed their support for "What We Do in the Shadows" by renewing the series for another season before its third had even premiered. President of original programming for FX entertainment, Nick Grad, delivered the good news to the show's loyal fanbase (via Variety), saying, "Fans can't seem to get enough of 'What We Do in the Shadows' and FX is ready to feed that appetite by setting up the series for a fourth season."
The series' fourth season is scheduled to premiere sometime in 2022. No specific date has been revealed yet, but the show may very well return in the fourth quarter of 2022. After all, while the series' first two seasons both aired in the spring, that pattern changed when the show's filming schedule was shifted by the COVID-19 pandemic (via Vox), which resulted in its third season premiering in the fall.
Who is in the cast of What We Do in the Shadows Season 4?
All of the major recurring characters in "What We Do in the Shadows" appear to be coming back for its fourth season, which means Nandor (Kayvan Novak), Laszlo (Matt Berry), Nadja (Natasia Demetriou), Guillermo (Harvey Guillén), and Colin Robinson (Mark Proksch) are all set to return. Proksch even confirmed his return in a recent interview with Deadline. The actor revealed that his character will, indeed, remain in a very vulnerable form in the next season as well, teasing that "a lot of" his work "will be done separately on green screen and other effects."
"What We Do in the Shadows" is also known for its great cameos and supporting characters. On its own, the show's third season saw everyone from series creator and executive producer Taika Waititi to comedian David Cross making surprise appearances (via Screen Rant). In the case of Waititi, the filmmaker appears in the season via some humorous VHS recordings (via TVInsider).
Odds are, viewers should expect to see more of those kinds of cameos in "What We Do in the Shadows" Season 4.
What is the plot of What We Do in the Shadows Season 4?
"What We Do in the Shadows" Season 4 may be far away right now, but that hasn't stopped speculation from growing about where the series will take its main cast of characters. Coming off its third season, the biggest question is how Colin Robinson's very own rebirth will alter the series. As viewers know, Colin was on a quest to learn about energy vampires when he was struck down at the ripe old age of 100. Now, the character's baby self is a secret to everyone but Laszlo, who has tasked himself with caring for the newborn.
Meanwhile, the dynamic between Nadja and Laszlo could get interesting now that he has tricked her into thinking he is fine with her London move. Additionally, throwing Guillermo into that shipping container and coffin not only puts Nadja in a position of having to choose between love and a dream gig with the Vampire Council but also possibly ends Guillermo's hopes of becoming a vampire himself.
The series has also treated viewers to an extensive lineup of supernatural beings, and it sounds like its next season could further explore that part of its fictional world. At least, executive producer Paul Simms teased at 2021 New York Comic Con (via CBR) how supernatural creatures will play a part in "What We Do in the Shadows" Season 4, saying, "There is an episode that we will be shooting in Season 4 that Yana [Gorskaya]'s directing, that is probably the most ambitious episode we've done as far as seeing the other creatures of the supernatural world."
