Beyond The Lights Director To Helm Silver Sable, Black Cat Movie
Sony's Spider-Man universe is going full speed ahead. Shortly after announcing that Tom Hardy would star in an upcoming Venom movie, the studio announced that The Secret Life of Bees writer and director Gina Prince-Bythewood would lead their Silver Sable and Black Cat film Silver and Black. Silver and Black has a script from Thor: Ragnarok's Chris Yost, but according to Variety, Prince-Bythewood will do some rewrites. The script is based on a previous draft from Westworld's Lisa Joy. The movie is set to follow the mercenary Silver Sable, also known as Silver Sablinova, and the burglar Black Cat, also known as Felicia Hardy. Unlike the upcoming Spider-Man: Homecoming, the film won't be set in the MCU.
The movie won't be Prince-Bythewood's first outing into superheroes, as she recently directed the pilot for Freeform's Marvel series Cloak and Dagger. She is also known for Love and Basketball, Beyond the Lights, and the Fox drama Shots Fired, which she co-created. She joins Zombieland's Ruben Fleischer in Sony's new Spider-Man universe, with Fleischer directing Hardy in Venom, due out in October of 2018.
Silver and Black is set to begin filming in the fall, so casting announcements should start to come out soon. (Rogue One's Felicity Jones briefly showed up in The Amazing Spider-Man 2 as Felicia Hardy, but it's unlikely she would reprise the role for the new film.) While we wait, read up on the untold truth of the Sony/Marvel partnership.
