T.J. Miller Is Leaving Silicon Valley
Silicon Valley may be returning for season five, but T.J. Miller won't be. HBO announced the Deadpool star's departure on Thursday, shortly after announcing that the series had been renewed for a new season.
"The producers of Silicon Valley and T.J. Miller have mutually agreed that T.J. will not return for season 5," HBO said in a statement. (via The Hollywood Reporter) "In Erlich Bachman, T.J. has brought to life an unforgettable character, and while his presence on the show will be missed, we appreciate his contribution and look forward to future collaborations."
Since signing on to Silicon Valley, Miller's film career has taken off. In addition to playing Wade's best friend and confidant Weasel in Deadpool and the upcoming Deadpool 2, Miller is set to voice the lead character in this summer's Emoji Movie and will star opposite Kristen Stewart in the thriller Underwater. He's also set to appear in Steven Speilberg's Ready Player One and the Henry David Throeau reimagining Walden, along with once again lending his voice to the character of Tuffnut in How to Train Your Dragon 3. His budding film career and fast rise to the top of the A-list explains why he would depart the series, but he will still be sorely missed by Silicon Valley fans.
Thomas Middleditch, Zach Woods, Kumail Nanjiana, Martin Starr, Josh Brener, Amanda Crew, Matt Ross, Jimmy O. Yang, and Suzanne Cryer are expected to return for the show's fifth season, which will debut in 2018.
