The Riverdale Character You Are Based On Your Zodiac Sign
One popular aspect of astrology is relationship compatibility, as many check for compatibility between their zodiac sign and the sign of their new crush. The zodiac signs are a distillation of personality traits, stripping people down to their core motivations and fears. Our innate driving forces have a massive influence on our relationships. Astrology can show us how people approach relationships and how they view the world.
When most people type zodiac compatibility into a search engine, they are looking for sun signs. But if you look a little deeper at the modalities and elements of these signs, important information can be found about how people deal with conflict in their relationships. Conflict can be healthy and necessary to move relationships forward, and sometimes to tear them apart, making room for something better.
Another place where conflict is absolutely necessary is storytelling. Conflict moves the plot forward, adding drama and tension to the storyline, and complexity to the characters. Conflict and character are the building blocks of entertainment. In soapy teen dramas filled with mysteries and sexual tension, conflict is key. Shows like "Riverdale" couldn't exist without the mysteries the characters investigate, or the drama they create in their personal lives. The characters in "Riverdale" have larger-than-life personalities that exemplify the various zodiac signs. Do you have a favorite character you identify with? Read on to learn if their personality traits match your zodiac sign.
Aries: Reggie Mantel
Aries is a cardinal fire sign. Symbolized by the Ram, Aries is seen in the night sky as the constellation of the same name. This constellation is associated with the Greek god of war, Ares. Called Mars in Roman mythology, this planetary ruler imbues this dynamic sign with courage, determination and confidence. As a Cardinal sign, Aries love to be in charge, both in life and in love. They are natural leaders known for their bravery and strength as much for their aggression and impulsivity. As you can imagine, Aries are charismatic and magnetic, leading them into short-lived, passionate entanglements, but they struggle to maintain healthy long-term relationships.
Reggie (played by Charles Melton) is a hotheaded alpha male with a strong physical presence, exemplifying both the Ram's positive and negative traits. Reggie's romantic entanglements are not a big part of the plot of "Riverdale," with one major exception: Veronica Lodge. Multiple times, Reggie and Veronica have engaged in short-lived romantic flirtations, but these entanglements don't last long. On the surface, viewers might think it's due to Veronica's feelings for Archie, but if you look at this through an astrological lens, we can see an underlying incompatibility. Both Veronica and Reggie like to be in charge, and a (relation)ship only needs one captain.
Taurus: FP Jones
Taurus is a fixed earth sign, symbolized by the Bull. Because of this combination of a fixed modality and earth element, Taureans are known for their stubbornness and their dislike of change. This sign is very practical and rooted in the material world, as they are steadfast, loyal and nurturing. Taureans can be a diligent and dedicated worker, partner, and parent, but they can also be materialistic and jealous. Being ruled by Venus brings another important facet of the Taurean personality, because Venus (Aphrodite in Greek mythology) is the goddess of love, which makes you value beauty, bounty and pleasure. Because of this, planetary ruler Bulls are sensual lovers, but they are also prone to overindulgence.
During the progression of the seasons of "Riverdale," we see FP (Skeet Ulrich) grow out of the negative traits of the Bull (such as his tendency to overindulge in alcohol) as he steps into his role as town Sheriff and dependable family man. FP's time in construction and later as the town sheriff are practical, reality based professions, popular with earth signs. But it is in FP's friendships and relationships that we see his Taurus nature. Bulls stay friends with people they have known since childhood and adolescence, much like FP and Fred Andrews did. FP's once and again relationship with Alice Cooper (Madchen Amick) illustrates how opposites attract, but aren't always able to make it work. Despite loving Alice, FP moved away after Jughead graduated high school, taking his daughter somewhere she would be safe.
Gemini: Betty Cooper
Gemini is a mutable air sign. Symbolized by the twins, this sign is one of the most mysterious and often misunderstood. As a mutable air sign, Geminis are adaptable, curious and intellectual. Ruled by Mercury (Hermes in Greek mythology), Geminis are excellent communicators and talented writers and journalists. Mercury, this sign's planetary ruler, is also a trickster god, connected to the mischievous nature of the Gemini sign. In relationships, Geminis are physically affectionate, but they also need an intellectual connection. Without one, they may become bored, moving on to their next lover, always looking for their other half. Sometimes called two-faced or fake, the twins are known for having dual personalities; the dark twin, and the light twin.
At first glance, Betty Cooper (Lili Reinhart) might look like the fresh-faced girl next door, with her perky blond ponytail and preppy attire. But as the story of "Riverdale" evolves, we see Betty has a dark side. A dedicated journalist and amateur sleuth, Betty exemplifies a Gemini's curiosity. Even her misuse of Adderall is a manifestation of her Gemini nature. As a mutable air sign, Geminis are easily distracted (a trait of ADHD) , but it is in Betty's closest friendships that we truly see her Gemini nature. Geminis are closely linked with the zodiac signs we attribute to Archie, Jughead and Veronica as well.
Cancer: Fred Andrews
Cancer is a cardinal water sign. As such, Cancers are loyal, sympathetic and nurturing. They are the archetypal mother of the zodiac, never underestimating the importance of home, family, and friendships. Like most cardinal signs, they feel most comfortable when they are in charge, but that doesn't mean they can't compromise. Ruled by the Moon, Cancers are deeply emotional people; they just don't like to show their emotions. In relationships, Cancers can be devoted, but often fall in love with a fantasy rather than a person. Because of this, they can carry a torch for their childhood sweetheart.
Fred Andrews (played by Luke Perry) exemplifies the nurturing qualities of the Crab. His home is a safe space for people in need. He is a devoted father and friend who is civic minded, caring deeply about his community. He employs people in need of honest work, willing to help FP repeatedly when his life was in shambles because of his drinking. The friendship between FP and Fred is a strong indicator of both their signs. Taurus and Cancer are two highly compatible signs. Fred's long-held regard for Hermione Lodge (Marisol Nichols) shows his sensitive side, as well as that Cancer tendency to hold onto the fantasy of a past love, long after the relationship has ended. The patience and unconditional love Fred has for his son, Archie, is further evidence of his Crab nature.
Leo: Cheryl Blossom
Leo is a fixed fire sign. Leos have big bold personalities, and they love being the center of attention. They are confident, ambitious and lead with their heart. Like all fire signs, they have a quick temper and a passionate nature to match. Symbolized by the regal Lion, they are natural leaders who aren't afraid of conflict. Leos can be controlling and vain, but much of their bluster is a facade to protect themselves by obscuring their vulnerabilities and insecurities. Anyone who leads with their heart can easily have it broken. Like other signs with a fixed modality, Leos can be stubborn and don't enjoy being bossed around. Ruled by the Sun, Leos are natural stars.
Like the Lion, Cheryl Blossom (Madelaine Petsch) loves to be the center of attention. Her red mane symbolizes a fiery temper and intense solar energy. She thinks herself the queen of Riverdale High and bosses everyone around accordingly. Cheryl can be vain and materialistic, but she is also generous with the Blossom fortune, making necessary contributions to save the high school and town. Cheryl may be combative and arrogant, but she also has the courage of a Lion. It is in Cheryl's relationship with Toni that we see her vulnerable side, but it is also where we see how controlling and manipulative she can be. Despite their obvious connection, it just doesn't seem like Cheryl and Toni can make it work, due to their innate incompatibility.
Virgo: Veronica Lodge
Virgo is a mutable earth sign. Virgos are known as clean freaks and perfectionists, methodical, organized and ambitious. As an earth sign, they are focused on the material world, preferring ideas to feelings. They can be materialistic like other earth signs, but having a mutable modality makes them slightly more flexible. In relationships, Virgos can be loyal and kind, but sometimes their high standards for themself and others create conflict. With the planetary ruler of Mercury, Virgos are strong communicators possessing a truth-seeker vibe. Virgos don't appreciate being misled or lied to, taking tremendous pride in their honesty and integrity.
With her dark hair and abundant sex appeal, you might expect Veronica Lodge (Camilla Mendes) to be a mysterious Scorpio, but you would be wrong. Veronica is obviously a Virgo, a force of nature, having high expectations for herself and others.
This is at the root of her issues with her father, Hiram Lodge. He constantly disappoints her by lying and misleading others in shady business deals. Veronica is strategic, methodical and organized. Virgos are drawn to projects, often getting into relationships with messy people who need to be saved. This perfectly describes Veronica's attraction to Archie. Veronica's best friend Betty is a Gemini. The two signs, despite being opposites in so many ways, share the planetary ruler of Mercury, giving them a strong bond and intellectual connection.
Libra: Kevin Keller
Libra is a cardinal air sign, and as such enjoy variety and learning new things. They have the intellectual curiosity of all air signs, but are a little different from other cardinal signs. Generally, cardinal signs are great initiators, but Libras are notoriously indecisive, perhaps because they are always trying to keep everyone happy. Libras are the peacemakers of the zodiac, and will do almost anything to avoid conflict. Because of this, they can be a bit of a sponge, acting differently around different groups, trying to keep the peace. Ruled by Venus, Libras love beauty and enjoy the arts and music immensely.
Kevin Keller (Casey Cott) perfectly embodies the attributes of a Libra. He is one of the most likable characters on "Riverdale," always willing to help Betty with her investigations, valuing her friendship and needs, often above his own. Finding a romantic partner is very important to Libras, and Kevin is always on the search for love, but often looks in the wrong places. He gets tangled up in The Farm, trying to help Betty's investigation, ultimately getting pulled into the cult because of his need for community and acceptance. Libras love of beauty and the spotlight are highlighted in Kevin's immaculate attire, as well as his interest in acting and musical theater.
Scorpio: Toni Topaz
Scorpio is a fixed water sign, a dynamic, fixed sign embodying a tenacity bordering on obsession. But as a water sign, they are comfortable in the depths of emotion and are intuitive, observant people. Scorpios are resourceful, brave, and passionate, as well as loyal and compassionate friends, but they don't shy away from intensity and conflict. They will fight for what is right, always holding up the truth. Their adherence to brutal honesty can be a source of conflict in their relationships. Scorpios are described as mysterious and cool, but like the ocean, there is always more going on beneath the surface. In love, Scorpios are dedicated, but sometimes obsessive.
Embracing her sex appeal, Toni Topaz (played by Vanessa Morgan) is the embodiment of the Scorpion, the symbol of this sign. She has the empathy of all water signs, and the edge Scorpios are known for. She is passionate, brave and loyal to her fellow Serpents (except that one time she lead a revolt, starting The Pretty Poisons — a fitting name for a gang lead by a Scorpion). Despite her rebellious nature, Toni has integrity, loves Riverdale and will fight for its survival.
Honest and compassionate, her relationship with Cheryl portrays the passion of both signs colliding. Toni's watery nature temporarily balances and subdues Cheryl's fire, but both have a fixed modality. The two are ultimately as incompatible as their modalities would suggest. As Co—Star Astrology says, Scorpios "look cool in a leather jacket," just like Toni.
Sagittarius: Archie Andrews
Sagittarius is a mutable fire sign. Having a mutable modality, Sagittarians are comfortable with change — in fact, they actually enjoy it. Their fire element imbues them with energy and passion, and they are optimistic and outgoing, winning friends everywhere they go.
But like other fire signs, it can be difficult for them to find focus and follow through on their plans. Sagittarians are known for their quick temper, like other fire signs. Perpetually restless, Sagittarians fall in love quickly. Knowing feelings are ephemeral, they are comfortable in the knowledge they can move on just as quickly if they feel restricted. In love, Sagittarius is looking for a good time, not necessarily a long time. They are happiest with someone who is independent and doesn't take life too seriously, giving them plenty of freedom to explore.
Sagittarians' fiery nature is reflected in Archie Andrews' red hair and his abundant physical energy. Like all Archers, known as the wanderers of the zodiac, Archie (KJ Apa) is searching for something. He is a social butterfly wanting to be involved in everything in his community. Archie's optimism can be infectious, but he often relies on others to carry his plans to fruition because of his lack of focus. Despite his attraction to Veronica, his fiery spontaneity directly opposes the Virgo's methodical approach to life. Betty, his next-door neighbor, is a Gemini. Gemini and Sagittarius are each other's polarity, sitting directly across from each other on the wheel of the zodiac. Polarities have a natural affinity, but the connection between Sagittarius and Gemini is strengthened by sharing their mutable modality. Fire needs air to grow, suggesting this will be a passionate paring.
Capricorn: Hiram Lodge
Capricorn is a cardinal earth sign, making them ambitious leaders. Because of their earth element, they focus their ambitions and energy on the material world, looking to succeed financially and garner respect, authority, and status. Notorious workaholics, Capricorns are often cold and emotionally distant, preferring to focus on the areas of life where they are able to exert control. This is partly a defense mechanism, because they are uncomfortable relying on others. Capricorns are disciplined perfectionists, with traditional values and high expectations of themselves and others.
Does this sound like someone else? Like his daughter, Veronica, Hiram Lodge is an earth sign associated with exacting standards and self-control. Sometimes people with similar personality traits get along wonderfully, and other times they butt heads. Goats are known for butting heads. While Capricorns love rules, and generally defer to authority, Hiram (Mark Consuelos) is an example of the dark side of Capricorn's demanding, controlling nature. Hiram sees his own authority as the law, lording it over Riverdale and its residents. We see his innate desire to rule in his role as town mayor and his position as both a businessman and crime boss. Another example of Hiram's Capricorn nature is his marriage to Hermione Lodge, which more closely resembles a business partnership than a loving, supportive relationship.
Aquarius: Jughead Jones
Aquarius is a fixed air sign. Fixed signs are known for being intense, and Aquarius is certainly that. They are idealistic humanitarians, with a revolutionary's heart.
As an air sign, they are curious and intellectual, often leveraging their imagination for financial gain. Aquarians are independent thinkers who value personal freedom, happiest in relationships with people who are independent and intelligent. Aquarians need an intellectual connection to spark a romantic interest. They are comfortable in the realm of thoughts and uncomfortable in the realm of emotion. Integrity and honesty is paramount to Aquarians, and they don't cope well with betrayal, proving they do have feelings despite not ruminating on them.
Jughead Jones (Cole Sprouse) is a bit of an enigma, like most Aquarians. Part nerd, part rebel, Jughead is equally comfortable writing for the school newspaper or in his role as Serpent King. He is intelligent and altruistic, but unpredictable and rebellious. His talents as a writer are an obvious nod to Aquarian traits. Jughead is idealistic, having a strong moral compass, but like many Aquarians his personal values aren't always perfectly in line with the rule of law. In his relationship with Betty, we see a natural pairing between Aquarius and Gemini. Jughead and Betty's relationship is a fan favorite, and they began this relationship while solving a mystery. Both Gemini and Aquarius are air signs, enjoying an intellectual connection and an independent spirit. When Betty kisses Archie during their senior year, Jughead is devastated by this betrayal. this proves that Aquarians have strong feelings, even if their heads are often in the clouds.
Pisces: Alice Cooper
Pisces is a mutable water sign, so Pisces are emotionally intuitive and compassionate. But they can also be naïve, easily being misled and taken advantage of by people they trust. This leads to a Pisces feeling victimized and trying to escape this painful reality. Extremely emotional, Pisces can forget about their morals occasionally and are sometimes called crazy — but that's often just because they possess more emotional intelligence than logic.
Alice Cooper, like most Pisces, has been called crazy and emotional a time or two. She can be overly trusting, leading to her being taken advantage of. All the evidence you need is her marriage to Hal Cooper, The Black Hood. For further evidence of her gullibility, we need only look to Alice bringing Chic home to stay at the Cooper house, despite being a complete stranger. Alice is a morally gray character, because a Pisces can forget about morals when they are achieving a goal. When Polly dies, Alice loses her grip on reality, living in a delusional fantasy where Polly is alive and Charles never went to jail. It is in Alice's relationship with FP Jones that we see how a stable relationship can benefit a Pisces. Like many Taureans, FP never got over his high school love, Alice. FP's earthy dependability is good for Alice, stabilizing her mood swings. Their bond is a perfect example of opposites attracting and being good for each other, despite them not being able to make it last.
