Where Is Dominic Hernandez From My 600-Lb Life Now?
There have been plenty of sad stories featured throughout TLC's "My 600-Lb Life." From abuse to mental health problems, individuals suffering from extreme morbid obesity often have underlying conditions that need to be addressed in addition to losing weight. However, few faced as much of an uphill battle as Season 8's Dominic Hernandez. He and his brother were homeless, living in a van, all while Dominic struggled with a weight of 672 pounds. Combined with the fact he had to travel from California to Texas to see Dr. Now, and it's heart-wrenching to see all of the obstacles in his way to attain better health.
During his episode, Dr. Now gave him the same advice he provides pretty much everyone, but Dominic is unable to live up to the expectations. Over the course of his episode, he only manages to lose about 20 pounds, which isn't enough to qualify for the weight loss surgery. It's at this point Dr. Now recommends the brothers get their life in order, including finding a home, so that they can both be in a better position to work on their health. So did the brothers follow this advice? What have they been up to since the cameras stopped rolling?
Dominic Hernandez started a GoFundMe
Dominic Hernandez doesn't have a huge presence on social media, but the one place you can check in with the former "My 600-Lb Life" star is on GoFundMe. He created the page in March 2020 as a way to get funds from fans to help him pay for weight loss surgery once he meets the requirements. So far, the account has raised over $9,000 out of a $30,000 goal, but donations continue to come in as well as words of praise from people, many of whom saw Dominic and his brother on the TLC series.
Some of the comments from donators include, "Just saw your story this evening. It was inspiring and moving! I pray you and your brother have been able to get situated here in Texas!" and "Saw you guys on 600 lb life. Man, I wish you guys the best. May God Almighty bless you and keep you." It's clear there are many people out there who want to see Dominic get the help he needs to keep the weight off and be healthier.
The last time Dominic checked in on the page was in May 2021. He shared the following with his fans: "Thank you for your patience with my update. I can't say much on the [weight] loss but let say 30lbs in one week is a great thing. Slowly but surely [I'm] working my way back to life, with your support and words of encouragement I am doing better every day. Thank you to everyone that has donated if it wasn't for you i don't know where I would be at right now so thank you so very much." Here's hoping Dominic gets the help he needs
