Nicolas Cage Cast In Action Thriller Mandy

Nicholas Cage has landed his next acting gig, and the roles sounds pretty intense. 

Deadline reports that Cage is set to star as the protagonist in the upcoming action-thriller flick Mandy. Directed by Panos Cosmatos (Beyond the Black Rainbow), the film tells the harrowing tale of Red Miller, a "broken and haunted man" who tracks down an off-the-rails religious cult who "slaughtered the love of his life." 

Mandy is set "in the primal wilderness of 1983," and is currently in pre-preproduction. Filming, anticipated to begin this summer, will take place in Belgium. Lord of the Rings alum Elijah Wood and Daniel Noah of SpectreVision are producing. Oscar-nominated composer Jóhann Jóhannsson, who literally set the tone for movies like Sicario and Arrival, is set to compose the score for Mandy. 

In a statement given to Deadline, Noah said this about the minds behind the coming film: "Panos [Cosmatos] is one of the most vital young filmmakers alive, a pop-culture Kubrick in the making. Nicolas Cage is a veritable god to those of us who grew up watching his classic performances. Bringing these two together for this surrealist, heavy-metal-soaked story of battle axes and demon bikers is unfathomably exciting to us."

Before he avenges his lost lover in Mandy, Cage will appear in Lionsgate Premiere's thriller film Inconceivable, due in theaters on June 30. While we wait to see more of Cage on the silver screen, take a look at some of the actor's craziest performances ever.
