The Will Smith Movie Character You Are Based On Your Zodiac Sign
Will Smith has been a household name ever since he sat on his throne as the "Fresh Prince of Bel-Air." While he began his career in comedy, Smith has delighted audiences with his range, playing roles as disparate as a government agent and the devil himself to portraying real-life figures like legendary boxer Muhammad Ali and Richard Williams in "King Richard," bringing the father and coach of dominant tennis champions Venus and Serena Williams to the big screen. From an alien-punching fighter pilot to a wish-granting genie in a lamp, Smith has taken on all kinds of roles
As the man who's, literally, done it all, we propose the question: can each zodiac sign represent one of Smith's characters? After taking a look at the characteristics we pulled from Refinery 29, we believe that the answer is yes. It's clear which character has the work ethic of a Virgo, and which has the drive of a Taurus.
Detective Del Spooner is a Capricorn
According to Refinery 29, Capricorns are responsible, disciplined, and express extreme self-control. On the flip side, they're also prone to be condescending and display unforgiving tendencies. Those who fall under this zodiac sign will always expect the worst and give off big know-it-all vibes.
"I, Robot" introduced audiences to Sonny (Alan Tudyk), the lovable machine with emotions working with the grumpy and mistrusting detective Del Spooner, portrayed by Will Smith. Spooner was a well-disciplined and responsible detective with a serious mistrust for robots. He could never forgive the fact that a robot rescued him from a car crash while allowing a little girl to drown. The robot's decision was based solely on statistics, as it believed that Spooner stood a better chance of surviving. While Spooner did eventually warm up to the idea of trusting Sonny, his misgivings on the other robots ended up being spot on, and his I-told-you-so attitude was anything but gracious.
Big Capricorn energy.
Hitch is an Aquarius
In the film "Hitch," Will Smith took on the character of Alex Hitchens, aka Hitch, a professional date doctor who helps men build the confidence to talk to their crushes and creates scenarios that would allow his clients to interact with the people they were interested in. The idea is that it would lead to a romantic and loving relationship between the two. Things really kick off when he meets and falls for gossip columnist Sara Melas (Eva Mendes), who's determined to learn and expose the identity of the date doctor. Plot twist, Sara: he also happens to be your new boyfriend.
As an Aquarius, Hitch exhibits signs of independence, originality, and progressive behavior. This zodiac sign is often described as a humanitarian, doing what they can to help out their fellow man. Hitch's entire career is to do just that. He's an independent character who turns his original and progressive thoughts into reality.
The Genie is a Pisces
Taking on the role of the Genie in Disney's live-action "Aladdin" film was no small feat. But if anyone could do it, it would be Will Smith. Instead of just re-hashing how legendary actor Robin Williams made the role great, Smith turned it into his own, making his interpretation of Genie a delightfully original addition to the film. Smith's Genie was compassionate about his friends and loved ones, musical — because, well it was a musical after all — and wise. As someone alive for centuries, he probably had a few words of wisdom to share.
As a character, the Genie was inherently sad, as he had dreams of gaining freedom and independence. He wanted to see the world and marry his love, Dalia (Nasim Pedrad). Instead, Genie was trapped to do the bidding of whomever possessed the lamp, so he would use music and humor to escape his reality — he was a gentle soul. So, what makes a Pisces? Was he musical? Check. Wise? Check. Desperate to escape his reality? You got it. Compassionate and gentle? Double-check — we ain't never had a friend like him!
Robert Neville is an Aries
According to Refinery 29, the Aries zodiac sign is typically courageous, determined, optimistic, and confident. A few weaknesses include aggression, impulsiveness, and moody behavior. How does this relate to Robert Neville (Will Smith)? First, let's look at his circumstances in the film, "I am Legend." Robert was the last survivor living in a post-apocalyptic New York. As a U.S Army virologist, he believed that it was his job to create a cure for the vampiric disease which turned 99% of the world's population into blood-sucking monsters.
As a determined character, he refused to leave the city, optimistic that he could find a cure. However, his aggression arose once his dog Sam was bit by the creatures he was forced to kill her. Overcome with grief and anger, Neville impulsively attacked the creatures as a way to avenge his only friend. Can we all agree that "I am Legend" collectively all made us sob like when Sam died?
Chris Gardner is a Taurus
"The Pursuit of Happyness" saw Will Smith step into the shoes of Chris Gardner, a salesman who went from being homeless to the founder of a multi-million dollar brokerage firm. This film was based on an inspiring true story, the memoir written by the real Chris Gardner.
According to Refinery 29, personality traits associated with the Taurus are that of patience, responsibility, and devotion. Weaknesses include stubbornness and uncompromising behavior. In the film, Gardner overcomes incredible financial obstacles to provide for his son. He's uncompromising in his belief that he would make a great salesman. Gardner patiently accepts an unpaid internship knowing that he desperately needs money. He believed that this internship would lead to further opportunities and responsibilities. Gardner is devoted to building a better life for his son, a task that he eventually completes. He encompasses all of the Taurus personality traits in the film, using both the positive and the negative attributes to find happiness for him and his son.
Henry Brogan is a Gemini
Of course, Will Smith's character Henry Brogan is a Gemini. The film Smith portrays him in is called "Gemini Man," after all. According to Refinery 29, a Gemini is gentle, affectionate, curious, and adaptable. However, the zodiac sign also displays traits of inconsistency. Listen, we know that Henry is an adaptable Marine sniper and kills his fair share of people in this film. However, hear us out as we sell the gentle aspect of his zodiac signs personality traits.
At the beginning of the film, we see Henry retire after being disillusioned from killing. When he hears that his last mission might have had him kill an innocent, he immediately investigates as he's curious, holds affection towards the innocent, and is concerned that he made the wrong call. As the story develops, Brogan comes across two of his clones, Junior and Clay, both of who are tasked with killing him. However, Junior chooses to side with Brogan and is confronted with killing Clay, who, up until now, has been like a father to Junior. Because of this, Henry takes on the kill himself as a gentle act of mercy, rather than allowing Junior to face the burden. This ties into Henry's inconsistent nature, as we know that he wants to stop the killing, yet we see that by the end of "Gemini Man," he changes his tune on a dime.
Hancock is a Cancer
Will Smith portrayed the alcoholic, moody, and pessimistic superhero John Hancock back in 2008. "Hancock" was the superhero who just couldn't do anything right. He suffered from amnesia only to wake up and discover that he's an immortal who is seemingly the only of his kind. Unfortunately, because of this, Hancock has a PR problem. He's often ridiculed for his careless and emotional outbursts that tend to cause more problems when all he's trying to do is save lives. Hancock tries to do the right thing, but nothing ever seems to go his way. And with the constant scrutiny, he has become quite the insecure and suspicious character. However, as the film progresses, we discover that Hancock is a fiercely loyal man and turns into a sympathetic hero.
The character traits assigned to Cancer are that of loyalty, emotion, and sympathy. This zodiac sign also displays insecure, moody, and pessimistic attributes. Poor Hancock, he just can't catch a break.
Detective Mike Lowrey is a Leo
It's not easy to forget Michael Bay's film debut; "Bad Boys" was a good time with Will Smith at his prime, like the scene of him running in slow motion down the streets of Miami. His chemistry with Martin Lawrence was the guiding force for this edgy buddy cop story, allowing for films like "Rush Hour" and "21 Jump Street" to follow in its footsteps.
According to Refinery 29, Leos are passionate, cheerful, and humorous. All traits that the confident ladies man Mike possesses. He's quick to make a joke and enjoys the day-to-day of his job with partner Marcus Burnett (Lawrence). His confidence is what makes him such a good detective. It's also what allows him to have such success with women. Weaknesses associated with the Leo zodiac sign include arrogance, stubbornness, and being self-centered; Mike certainly has the confidence to fill a room, believing himself to always be right in any situation. His stubbornness is one of the defining characteristics in the film.
Richard Williams is Virgo
"King Richard" features Will Smith in the role of Richard Williams, the father of tennis champions Venus and Serena Williams. The film follows the story of how Richard led Venus and Serena to become legends on the court. As two African-American girls from Compton, the odds were stacked against them; it was clear that people thought they weren't right for the world of tennis. But thanks to their talent and the determination and hardworking attitude of Richard, the doubters were all proven wrong.
Virgo is a zodiac sign that highlights loyalty, hardworking, kindness, and practical behavior. Richard was loyal to his daughters and worked endlessly to give them the best opportunities. The film portrays him as being a kind man, who many had trouble saying no to due to his friendly nature. Virgos are traditionally overly critical of themselves and others which leads to an all work and no play type attitude. Richard Williams exudes this behavior as he pushes his daughter to be the best they can be, no excuses.
Deadshot is a Libra
Refinery 29 outlines Libras to be diplomatic, fair-minded, and cooperative. However, they also tend to exhibit signs of self-pity and have been known to carry a grudge. While this might not initially sound like Will Smith's Deadshot from the 2016 film "Suicide Squad," hear us out.
Deadshot begins as a character that carries a grudge; no surprise, he's stuck in prison at Belle Reve penitentiary. He blames Batman for his misfortune, as he was the one who captured Deadshot in front of his daughter, whom he's now unable to see. However, once Amanda Waller (Viola Davis) forces Deadshot to join Task Force X's team of villains, he ends up being a cooperative team player and gets close with his teammates. This is especially true when he chooses not to kill teammate Harley Quinn (Margot Robbie) at Waller's command. Near the end of the film, Deadshot becomes the team leader with Rick Flag (Joel Kinnaman) and diplomatically brings the team together to defeat Enchantress (Cara Delevinge).
Fun fact, Smith's zodiac sign is a Libra!
Ali is a Scorpio
The Scorpio zodiac sign represents bravery, passion, being stubborn, and resourcefulness. However, they are also known to exhibit signs of violence. It shouldn't come as a surprise that a professional boxer, who fights for a living, could be described as a Scorpio.
"Ali" was a biographical film that portrayed the life of boxing legend Muhammad Ali. Will Smith tackled the character during a time in his life when Ali faced scrutiny over converting to Islam and his criticism of the Vietnam War. While these were controversial decisions, it was also brave for Ali to speak his mind and stand up for his choice not to enlist. However, because of this choice, he faced 5 years in prison, with his boxing license taken away. After doing his time, Ali's stubbornness saw his journey back to the ring, where he was able to continue his passion as a professional boxer.
Agent J is a Sagittarius
According to Refinery 29, if you're a Sagittarius, you are generous, idealistic, and have a great sense of humor. However, you're also prone to saying anything that comes to mind and being very impatient. Do any of these zodiac characteristics ring a bell?
"Men in Black" was the first film of the "Men in Black" trilogy. Eventually, the story grew into the spinoff, "Men in Black: International," starring Chris Hemsworth and his "Thor: Ragnarok" co-star Tessa Thompson. The premise follows a group of government agents who protect the world from aliens and keep those living among us secret. Will Smith portrays Agent J, who accidentally gets dragged into this world of spies, lies, and alien allies. Agent J handles most things with comedic ease, but impatiently demands answers from his partner Agent K (Tommy Lee Jones), who prefers to keep a tight lip on his activities. Due to Agent J's lack of experience, he tends to say the first thing that comes to mind, in the hopes of eliciting a reaction or getting Agent K to answer his questions. Spoiler, it never tends to be the latter.
