The Witcher Season 2 Voleth Meir Twist Nobody Saw Coming

Season 2 of "The Witcher" has finally premiered after two years of waiting, and the fans have a lot of opinions. The first season was criticized heavily due to its use of multiple timelines that converged in the last episode (via IGN). While this was more streamlined for the new season, fans are fuming about other aspects of "The Witcher" Season 2. For example, many critics online find issue with the treatment of Eskel (Basil Eidenbenz), one of the Witchers at Kaer Morhen.

But despite this criticism, there are interesting twists as well. Yennefer (Anya Chalotra) loses the use of her magic after the battle of Sodden Hill, and she attempts to regain it all season long. Additionally, Ciri (Freya Allan) is finally reunited with Geralt (Henry Cavill), and he teaches her the ways of combat. But there is one twist in particular that has caused quite a stir from fans of the books and video games.

Voleth Meir is part of The Wild Hunt

In one of the final moments of "The Witcher" Season 2, a main antagonist is introduced. Fans of the video game "The Witcher 3: The Wild Hunt" will recall a storyline where Ciri is hunted for her power (via Polygon). Not only are The Wild Hunt revealed to be a significant villain in "The Witcher" Season 2 as well, but Voleth Meir turns out to be a big part of The Wild Hunt. Voleth Meir, also known as The Deathless Mother, is a demon that feeds off of pain and suffering. She possesses Ciri in a bid to return to her home sphere, and when Voleth Meir successfully returns home, she morphs into a Wild Hunt rider. Many fans on Reddit have been theorizing about what this means.

"The wild hunt likes to impersonate legends or myths with theatrics, spectral projections and their superior technology in order to manipulate people or control them. So its probably one of their [spies] pretending to be a demon with very powerful magic," a Redditor named u/sephelutis wrote. Voleth Meir turning into a rider is left ambiguous, and many fans have lingering questions. "The showrunners confirmed Voleth Meir is a part of the Wild Hunt, making her a 'dark elf'. As to what it means for the upcoming seasons – no idea. Hopefully Wild Hunt stays true to what they are in the books," Redditor u/dr4kun commented.

Hopefully, we'll get more answers in "The Witcher" Season 3.
