Why The Book Of Boba Fett Chapter 1 Has Fans Looking Twice At The Gamorrean Guards
The following article contains spoilers for "The Book of Boba Fett" Chapter 1.
The greatest bounty hunter in the galaxy is finally getting his due. While Boba Fett's armor may have been awesome in the original "Star Wars" trilogy, it's safe to say that the character didn't exactly have much to do rather than stand around and look cool. However, Boba Fett was given new life in Season 2 of "The Mandalorian," quickly becoming an ally to the titular warrior. While he was given a second chance of life, it was clear his appearance was only the beginning of great things to come, and "The Book of Boba Fett" has officially established the iconic character as the new crime lord of Tattooine.
Boba Fett (Temuera Morrison) may be in charge, but he'll need some help, which he gets in the form of Fennec Shand (Ming-Na Wen) and a couple of Gamorrean guards. It's understandable if audiences were wary of the Gamorreans initially. After all, it's hard to know where precisely their allegiances lay. But fortunately, they seem to have picked the right side by aligning with Boba Fett, especially when considering a sequence that has some fans looking twice.
Star Wars fans have realized the Gamorrean guards are smarter than they first appear
There's a critical moment in Chapter 1 of "The Book of Boba Fett" where the Gamorrean guards really get a chance to shine. It's just after Boba Fett and Fennec Shand pay a visit to what looks like an intergalactic casino. As the two conduct business, their newfound employees seem to disappear, as pointed out by Redditor u/tchuckss, "I noticed they had disappeared shortly before the ambush, I thought something fishy had been going on. Like, why would they suddenly and conveniently disappear?"
Of course, their disappearance seems to make greater sense in the context of what comes next. Once Boba Fett and Fennec Shand leave the building, mysterious enemies ambush them. They use shields to confine the two in an enclosed space, and when things appear darkest, the Gamorrean guards come out of the woodwork to attack the warriors, giving their bosses the opportunity they need to strike back. u/tchuckss goes on to describe the strategy, "[The Gamorrean guards] come back as badasses to save the day. Still not trusting them 100%, but it was a bit smart if they had sensed the impending attack to hang back so as not to be stuck in the middle."
It remains to be seen where their true loyalties lay, but it seems like most fans think they're going to be valuable assets to Boba Fett's mission. Redditor u/Sir_Puppington_Esq explains, "They're the crime world's version of stormtroopers, so I doubt there's very much to be expected as far as them being the center of a plot twist. They were loyal to Jabba, then just as loyal to Bib Fortuna, and now they're loyal to Fett. They just follow power." With six more episodes left in Season 1, there will undoubtedly be plenty more action for the Gamorreans to take part in.
