Josh Charles Joins Law & Order True Crime: The Menendez Murders
Josh Charles has joined Dick Wolf's upcoming Law & Order true crime series focusing on the case of the Menendez brothers, according to The Hollywood Reporter. The eight-episode series stars Edie Falco as Leslie Abramson, the defense lawyer tasked with defending the two brothers, who were accused of brutally murdering their parents in 1989.
The show is described as a "gripping in-depth" dramatization of the case, which captured the attention of America. The series is set to look at the major players in the case, as well as delve further into the crime and the media circus that surrounded it. It will focus on the day-to-day battles of the trial and look into the truth of what happened behind the scenes.
Charles, who is best known for his role on The Good Wife, will play Dr. Jerome Oziel, the brothers' psychiatrist whose controversial testimony plays an important role in the case. Since the series ended, the actor, who earned a Golden Globe nomination and two Emmy nominations for his part, has kept busy with guest starring roles on Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt, Inside Amy Schumer, and Drunk History and with parts in films like Norman, The Drowning, and the upcoming Amateur.
The rest of the cast for the series includes Gus Halper as Erik Menendez; Miles Gaston Villanueva as Lyle Menendez; Heather Graham as Judalon Smyth, an emotionally fragile woman having an affair with Charles' Dr. Oziel; Elizabeth Reaser as Deputy District Attorney Pam Bozanich, who is assigned to investigate the murders; Larry Cedar and James DuMont as the older brothers of the murdered Kitty Menendez; Julianne Nicholson as Jill Lansing, the defense team partner of Falco's Abramson; and Anthony Edwards as Judge Stanley Weisberg, who presides over the trial. Chris Bauer, Cliff Chamberlain, Lolita Davidovich, Carlos Gomez, Sam Jaeger, and Constance Marie also star.
Principal photography on the series is set to begin on Monday ahead of a scheduled Sept. 26 premiere on NBC. The show comes from Law & Order vet Rene Balcer with Wolf as an executive producer.
