Jason Statham Turned Down A Marvel Role
We came this close to seeing Jason Statham in the Marvel Cinematic Universe.
During a recent interview with Den of Geek (via Geek Tyrant), Marvel Studios president Kevin Feige revealed that there have been talks with British action star about coming aboard the MCU, but scheduling stood in the way.
"We're fans," Feige said about Statham, star of The Transporter and The Mechanic. "We talked with him about doing a role in one of our movies... It didn't end up working out. His schedule didn't work out."
Feige recalled hearing back from Statham after they spoke. "I was in another meeting a few days later, and my cellphone rang. I didn't recognize the number, but I answered it. And it was Jason Statham... He was saying 'sorry it didn't work out, maybe next time.' He couldn't have been nicer!"
When asked which character Marvel wanted Statham to play, Feige coyly wouldn't answer. Could it possibly be someone in Avengers: Infinity War or Avengers 4? Basically everyone in Hollywood has a part in those upcoming ensembles.
Feige did also recently say that Marvel has discussed bringing Captain Britain into the MCU. But there are no concrete plans for that, so it's unlikely that Feige would've been looking to cast the role. Also, Statham isn't exactly the best fit for the British equivalent of Captain America.
Thankfully, it sounds like he left things on good terms with Marvel, which could open the door for a role in the future. After all, Feige has said that the MCU will be "very different" after Avengers 4, so anything seems to be possible.
While we keep trying to guess who Statham could've played, find out what he said when he was rumored to be up for the part of Bullseye on the Daredevil Netflix series.
