Nimona Animated Movie Gets Release Date
Nimona will make the leap from Tumblr to the big screen.
According to Exhibitor Relations, a movie adaptation of the popular web comic-turned-graphic novel will be released by 20th Century Fox Animation on February 14, 2020.
Noelle Stevenson originally came up with the story while she was a student at the Maryland Institute College of Art, and she posted Nimona to Tumblr. It became a graphic novel in 2015, and Fox acquired the rights that year.
Based on Stevenson's experience with cosplay, the story follows a young shapeshifter who is the sidekick of supervillain Lord Ballister Blackheart. Blackheart is a knight who became a mad scientist. Together, the pair fight against Blackheart's nemesis, Sir Ambrosius Goldenloin.
Patrick Osborne, director of the Oscar-winning short Feast, will helm the movie based on a script by Marc Haimes (Kubo and the Two Strings).
Stevenson also worked on the Lumberjanes comic series, which Fox is also developing into a film.
