Close Encounters Of The Third Kind Re-Release Teaser Revealed
This definitely means something.
Sony released a cryptic new teaser for the theatrical re-release of Steven Spielberg's sci-fi classic Close Encounters of the Third Kind. The movie will hit theaters for one week beginning Sept. 1, in honor of the film's 40th anniversary.
The clip mostly features an air traffic controller screen paired with audio from the 1977 movie in which a pilot documents a UFO sighting. We also see brief, blurry images from iconic scenes in the film, including UFOs on rural roads and the Devils Tower rendezvous spot. There's no mention of the re-release in the teaser, but Deadline confirmed that the movie will be back in theaters in the U.S. and Canada for a limited engagement.
The story follows Indiana electrical lineman Roy Neary (Richard Dreyfuss), who becomes obsessed with subliminal mental images of a mountain-like shape after a brief encounter with UFOs. It leads him on a journey to find the location, where he becomes part of a monumental moment in human history.
Originally released just a few months after Star Wars, the film became a massive hit, bringing in $288 million worldwide. It was also nominated for eight Oscars and four Golden Globes.
